The LB7 also had 3" intercoller pipes where the LLY had 2.5 IIRC. No crappy EGR, No cat, stuff like that all has an effect.

Interesting, If lb7 are 3" then the aftermarket ones I have must be 3.5 because I matched them up side by side and they are bigger for sure.

Pains me to say it but if we are talking the same initial purchase price, I would start with a Lilly simply because of injector location, and less failures. However, if you are gonna have both though I'd make the lb7 the toy if it will get driven less, because it sucks changing injectors whether it's stock or 1000hp.

I would do anything before a lilly. Cooling system issues overheating issues have seen more head gasket jobs on 120k -150k on lilly than any of the others. Problem is even studs fresh heads and gaskets you still have an overheating pos until that gets addressed lb7 lbz lmm lml way better choices.

Are we talking a lot of head gasket failures? Or just more than other years? I think the lly has the highest back pressure. Maybe that's why

Disregard my frustration with lillys. They are just as good as the rest of em just seen alot of hg failures due to excessive engine temps in my mind.

For a comparable price I would go with the LLY. I have LB7S myself and my son has the LLY. In stock format with the normal upgrades I think the LLY is more responsive where as the LB7 seems to have a more flat torque feel.

Its really just preference. Personally I would take an lb7 over an lly any day, or any other version for that matter. But that's me.

My 05 Lilly has not lived an easy life the last 40k miles I've owned it. It's up to 175k miles, countless practice tunes from me experimenting with what works and what didn't, lots of questionable "alternative" fuels while I was commuting 150+ miles a day, and just generally running her pretty hard. Other than a fluke crank sensor issue, an injector that likes to knock a little to let me know it's time to add some additive to the fuel (which usually is just a little used motor oil, been that way since I got the truck) and a couple leaking water pumps it's been a great truck. And I don't think I'd trade it for any other year.

Lb7 injectors are the biggest of all the d-max engines... 5-10% IIRC bigger than an LLY.

LML injectors are the largest by a pretty big margin, stock equals 60% over LBZ injectors...

Personally I think the lb7 responds better to max effort tuning than an LLY...
