we have all heard it a million times. I heard it again the other night.
a guy at the local truck pull told me he had a 94 heavy duty half ton chevy that was special ordered, and that the only thing half ton about it was the badges. it had the "heavier frame and axles". and that basically it was a 3/4 ton. between that and just people just not knowing anything about what there trying to tell you.

when I bought my 93 6.5 turbo diesel 2500. the guy told me it was a one ton, based on the fact he had to press out the wheel studs to put new rotors on. and only the one tons were like that.

I don't know how many times ive heard of some special ordered original owner this or that. I find it funny though. I know theres stuff like this but not as much as I hear it. I did have a 89 f-250 dually. I don't know what the deal with it was but im sure the original owner wanted a dually f-250 and went to the dealer and special ordered it like that.

my 01 duramax has semi axles, and a army tank torsion bars. and it has a high out put engine that is very rare, the only one ive seen I might add. and its the same frame as the Kodiak-they just shortened it down. actually I think the high out put engine is out of a Kodiak.
it has the heavier steering and shocks that came in the one tons.
it has the same transmission as the space station.

I was just wondering if im the only one who hears this kind of stuff or if its just something in the water around here. feel free to share. I would love to hear some stories.

I hear it all the time.

My old 95 3509 had a Dana 110 rear axle. The owner said it was stock. It was no stock as the VIN said it should have a Dana 80. I never believe what people said. Also people don't seem to know the difference from factory equipped and dealer installed.

GM DID offer the heavy duty 1500 that was basically a 2500 with 6 lug wheels in the GMT-400 body style. It came with a 1500 front end, but the rear axle was a 9.5" 14 bolt semi-floater and had a slightly heavier frame like a 2500 had. And to be extra confusing in that era you could buy a 1500 BURB with the diesel that was a 3/4 ton in every area. It had slightly softer rear springs, the 9.5" semi floater VS the 10.5" full floater, and a 8050 GVWR VS the 2500's 8600.

There was some 5 lug's with 9.5 14 bolts under them, but they were mostly in diesel trucks.

I had a 94 Chevy half ton 2wd regular cab long bed silverado with a 6.5 and automatic trans. It had a bigger rearend with six lug axles. Gm has allowed some crazy stuff to be ordered throughout the years.

I had a 96 GMC Sierra 1500 extended cab Z71 that had the heavy duty chassis package. 9.5 " 6 lug 14 bolt rear. It was sprung heavier than a standard 1500. I don't remember the GVWR but it was a couPle hundred pounds heavier than a standard 1500. It had 3/4 ton brakes too. People were always surprised with how much weight it could carry for a half ton.

I had a friend with a 90 light duty 2500 4x2 with a tbi 350 that had the 5 lug 9.5" 14 bolt. I don't think they were real common.

Not real common, but I've seen 2 before. And one of them was a 3.08 W/T with a 6.5L and a 4L80E trans. That had to suck waiting until 60 or so for lockup in OD.

I mean like a guy at my work as a twin I beam ford that is a f-250 and he swears up and down the badges are the only thing about it that aren't f-350. he said his half ton ford was a one ton because it had a c6 transmission. I know about the chevy heavy halfs. and the 3500 hd's with the 19.5's id actually like to have one, I guess maybe it is just around me lol;)

Lately I've seen a couple drw F350's that are ccsb's. I thought you had to have an 8' bed to get drw's. I don't think they are centurion conversions either.

Everyone wants to think that whatever they have is the best.

That's like custom cars with "Corvette" motors. There's about 60% more motors out there than actual Corvettes.
