LLY: Is my Water Pump gone?

just finished up installing my W/P. 4.5hrs start to finish. not terrible but i would have rather done other things today. i skimmed over THE BAC's diy on the other site. Just wanted to thank THEBAC for taking the time so i at least didnt go in blind.

Well I thought I had fixed the problem, turns out one fixed leak turns into a big leak. I lost over 1/2 a gallon today driving for an hour. When I tightened the two bolts in red it seems this piece got a crack in it(red) i have no idea how this happened but im a little pissed off.

i never saw it, my buddy had a mirror and said its coming from the back of the piece that is in yellow. Now im really unmotivated to tear it all apart again:mad:
Is it maybe that hose? It doesn't look like it's on all the way, or maybe the clamp isn't fully on the hose.

We tried 3 different clamps and coolant still comes out. No idea why it is leaking all of a sudden. So it must be from somewhere else really strange it wasnt leaking like that at the track then i think i find where it is leaking then when the bolts are tightened it leaks worse from a different spot f**kin weird

well looks like the idiot strikes again:rofl:

i see coolant leak marks around the left bolt(it was completely loose) and once i tightened that one i heard air so they are both all tight now and the leak is fixed. I am overwhelmingly happy that my water pump isn't leaking :D:D:D


Your telling me I posted all the info to change your water pump for no reason,I know it would of taken you 2 months to swap but man, Time to ban you lol

That hose has leaked on many before.

thats the problem it isn't the hose it appeared that coolant was coming out from the end of the hose after the clamp but it seems its coming out from the metal tube directly above the hose you're talking about

Nick that tube you tighten the bolts in.At the top there is a o ring seal.I beat its leaking there if not the little black hose behind it.We use black atv on that tube when we install it along with the o ring.If it leaked more after you tightend the bolt it pulled down on the o ring now and is causing the leak.

Henry I had a little of a hard time getting that tube back on, should it come out of the thermostat housing easily and then go back on without removing the coolant cross over tube?

its not a tight fit but also not loose.when you have the housig off and clean, check the o ring on that tube make sure its good and not cut or messed up if so replace, Add some atv sealer to it slip it in and bolt housing on then slide down and tighten the 2 bolts on the water pump.

Uh boy, you could very well have the infamous O ring issue. :mad: Been there, done it. Sucks.

The edges of the socket that the black tube slips into are sharp. If you took that tube out at some point, you probably nicked (or like I did, cut) the o-ring on the top during installation. It leaks like an SOB if it is cut, and you wont have any idea anything is wrong until its all back together and running. You have to use some sort of lube (we used dielectric grease) on the O-ring during installation, and be very very careful pushing the tube up into place.

An LB7 injector cup O-ring works great as a replacement.

Got the tube out and the O ring is pinched kind of hard to tell from the picture but its def. cut. Can this O ring be replaced? I might head over to my Chevy parts department tomorrow and see if they have something that will work... I take it this isn't a common O ring that needs replacement eh?
