How much is a new oem water pump btw? Thinking this might be the way to go when the time comes.... just over 100k now so hopefully not for some time but ya never know

You should be able to grab a stock pump for a couple hundred bucks. As long as the pump hasn't damaaged the housing at all this is the way to go:thumb:

You can't have the same truck and same driver in the Diesel Power Challenge more than once - unless they win and are coming back to defend their title. More Diesel Addiction trucks will be entered for next year though.:thumb:

Advance Auto pumps are around $110 - we haven't had any issues with trucks with stock motors and I wouldn't recommend an electric pump for everyone that has to replace the water pump. Typically they go out when the seal fails and they start leaking out the weep hole - throw in a normal replacement and it'll be fine for another 100K miles. The ones from NAPA don't mesh right with the cam gear and whine but other than that I haven't had or heard of many problems with the parts store pumps. If you get to the power level that you start breaking pumps (typically the press fit of the gear or impeller to the shaft) then you might want to consider electric. Mine broke the press fit so I welded it, broke the weld so I welded it better, then started breaking the shafts themselves - after 12 pumps in 2 months it was time to give up and go electric.

I know this is totally unrelated to the pumps but I see both the LB7's and LLY's used a 1 3/4" electric pump. Any idea if the LBZ lower rad hose is the same I.D.? Mine measured best I could tell around 2 1/4 - 2 3/16 O.D.

its not the same, LBZ is bigger, but its too dark to go out and measure it right now

FWIW: I ordered a Stewart pump from Jegs Aug 2nd, and its still backordered with no ETA. i might cancel the order and try mezierre.

Jegs was the last place I tried when ordering the pump and they only had 3 left in stock

When I spoke with the rep from S/W he said they really dropped the ball
Mezierre is probably a better pump just like the way the SW IN/OUT is byt nothing a lil creative thinking cant handle

I know 3 guys that are trying to get there hands on a SW and feel the same as you

I do love haveing a electric pump....Ted and I swapped a pump the other day on a 700 hp truck and there was vitually nothing left of the impeller

you could just use a alluminum or stainless swedge

I didnt even try after talking to them . we have diesel drags this friday, sat and sunday we have sand drags , radar and block pulls in embden me that i really want to attend so we are welding a new one for now and im having my welder block off the one that broke so i can do an electric pump later this fall

I tried every type of welding and even had a groove machined in the ends of the shaft and impeller and gear to lay a nice weld into. I even machined 1/4 of the fins off to lighten the impeller and make it grab less water. But for a temporary fix I can see doing it. As far as welding the broken one up all you need is 3 freeze plugs and some green lok-tite.

Ive never been happpier with a mod than with this one! I hot lapped my truck 3 times runninng low 10s and with 1 electic fan it got to a max of 82c this is with McRats T stats though

As far as running it on a DD I cant comment,But any truck running over 700 HP you need to do this IMO

I swapped a water pump on a truck that has 650 to 800 hp the other day.....he had less than 1000 miles sicne upgrading and his water pump was TOAST!!! worst iv ever seen!!

Guys realize this is a problom with our trucks! and there is a simple fix

X2! I can pull my truck, pull it off the track and shut it off, leave the electric pump and fans going and it will go from 200 or so, to below 160 in just a few minutes. We just modified my stock thermostats so they always flow a little bit of water when the pumps are on. The only problem i had, is my relays for my pumps and fans got wet and failed last week and i didnt know it, the truck got hot a blew a coolant line friday night. So from here out, i check the coolant flow, and fans before i pull.

Determined the LBZ has a 2 3/8" o.d hose so that would make it a 2" i.d. (3/16 wall) Problem is summit nor jegs has one. Is there a possibility it's just not online? Where else could I find one?

Update : broke second pump with less than 250miles on it . got the s/w pump from summit today and starting the install . I also ordered this http://www.jegs.com/i/Moroso/710/63760/10002/-1
