"So another mass-murder conducted by a product of government schools, in a government school, under the government-recommended/mandated care of a government-employed/licensed shrink, on government-approved and government-promoted mind-altering drugs, in a government-mandated weapon-free zone, protected by a government agency the government claims 'serves and protects' (though it is incapable of doing so). Clearly the problem is guns."

What they've done in Texas and PA is the answer! We have enough cops and Military men and women to protect every school in this nation or any public place without it becoming a police state!

Just like they are doing now they have a cop at every school why can it not continue? The biggest determent to these animals is failure and also seeing one or two killed trying to act will deter many also.

The problem is that's NOT the answer. Having KNOWN force that can respond to threats will NOT help. Having an UNKNOWN force that can react to the threat is the answer. If someone is hell bent to kill, THEY WILL! and if they KNOW who can react, they will take out those people first. Action is faster than reaction.

Case in point: several years ago there was a shooting in Kirkwood City hall, which is about a half hour from me. The perp, Charles Lee "Cookie" Thornton, approached Sgt William Biggs in the parking lot across the street from town hall AND the police station. The report I receive indicated Cookie asked Sgt Biggs for the time, at which point he brought a 44Mag revolver up to the base of Sgt Biggs skull and executed him. He then took Sgt Biggs' weapon and proceeded into city hall. Upon entering the council chamber, he immediately executed the officer on duty, before anyone could react. This eliminated the immediate likelihood of him being stopped. He then proceeded to go down the dias, firing at the council members one by one. By the time police were able to arrive and take him down, several council members and other city officials were dead or wounded. The sad thing is while the city hall is 'off limits' to concealed weapons, the council members DO have a legal right to be carrying at the meetings. Had one or more of them been exercising that right, it is very likely less people would have been killed.

As evidenced in this case (And many more, I'm sure), the known armed threat to the perp was immediately eliminated, thus freeing the perp to continue his rampage unmolested much longer than he could have if there were unknown individuals in the room that could have responded.

The bottom line is if you have one or two police or security guards 'standing guard', a perp WILL have the drop on them and WILL execute them first, above all, and then continue murdering.

Flood your state and federal representatives with your opinions/positions now! No time to lose. At least to mitigate the coming damage as much as possible

Not talking about Chicago John... If you are content to let your legislators speak for you without your input than that's fine. I just sent the following to both of our Senators and my Congressman. They NEED to know how I feel.

"I am extremely concerned for the future of my country. I am a multi tour VietNam veteran and lifelong resident of Illinois. I know that we fundamentally disagree on the firearm issue but you need to know and understand that not only is the 2nd amendment to our constitution about hunting and personal protection and safety for our homes and family but it is more about protecting the citizens from a tyranical government. This seems to be a direction that our current leadership is leaning and it is not going to be acceptable to many millions of citizens just like me that see these shooting tragedies as about many societal ills but not at all about restricting the right for law abiding citizens to bear any type of arm. Nowhere in the constitution is it spelled out what type of arms we can bear. Assault weapons are already banned (since 1934). Semi-automatic firearms should NOT be demonized as the cause of insanity.
With sincere patriotic conviction, I am requesting you and your colleagues to weigh this matter very carefully and to the law of the land as given by our forefathers."

This is a lose lose in my opinion. The whole situation.

The pencil pushing liberal pansy asses in washington will get backed by the "hippie live in a fantasy land where nobody will ever hurt me" world.

I seriously want to start a group for car control. Nobody needs a vehicle that goes over 55mph. Lower every single state speed limit to a max of 55. To many people die in car crashes. And the sad thing is, if i wrote enough bullshit essays, petitions, and used big fancy words and say alcohol is not the problem, its the cars that people who drink have access to, i would probably get some followers. America is filled with a bunch of candy asses that WANT the government to tell them how to live their life.

Im disgusted period. Killing innocent children is absolutely horrid. There is no positive thing going to come out of what happened in CT.

Cheaper than Dirt has stopped online sales, wal mart is not selling the gun that the gunman used, ect...

I WILL NOT let another person tell me IF i can defend myself. All this is going to do is cause law abiding citizens to become criminals, buying weapons illegally for protection.

Better get your favorite new toy while you can, grubby fingers will be trying to take your rights away very soon........and the liberals wait and hope for tragedy's so they can exploit them to their political advantage.

Pro gun people are just as guilty as using situation to push their agenda as well, lets be fair here.
