Pretty much the cops don't care. I guess they have more important problems like seat belt tickets. It really does suck when they find the guys info in a book bag in the truck and they don't go and check. By info I mean a photo ID and personal stuff.

I would go ask who is in charge of the case and see what they have to say. If they don't have someone on the case I would threaten to go to the media with it, but leave out the part about you chasing the guy, they could come after you for that

How can we get this story to the media/public? Emphasize how the Police have a lack of enthusiasm in doing THEIR JOB! Maybe name the officers that were involved. What is the thieving scumbag's name and address?

I would envolve the local newspaper and i would be anywhere a local politician was campaining and ask them what they are going to do about the crime wave and the lazy police force infront of everybody.Id make waves for sure till someone wanted to shut me up by looking into it.

Either that or id i get even off the record.1 way or the other they would pay.

He doesnt care he already stated that,I dont blame him id do the same thing and i wouldnt care either.

You take this up a level and bring it to the media that the cops are not doing their job that would be easy for them to throw it back in your face, I have spent a short time as a reserve deputy; and I can tell you he had good chance he would have went to jail for reckless driving. Trust me I hate a thief, I really do think you should get 20 years of hard labor for stealing anything but he put himself in a dangerous situation by admitting to the cops that you broke all sorts of laws to such a level you can be arrested

Seatbelt tickets are an important means of raising revenue, which can be used to hire more cops, to write more tickets, thereby raising more revenue. Unless you can prove that the thief wasn't wearing his seat belt, then your case doesn't fit into the cycle. How would you feel if a cop had to take the time to check this guy out, and while he did that some scofflaw was out driving around with tinted Windows? That would cut the state out of a hundred bucks or so. You don't want that on your conscience, do you? And what if they did catch him? They would have to use some of the money they get from you to pay for his accommodations and internet access, instead of using that money to put someone just like him on the force, "to protect and serve".

This is why I don't like cities that use ticket revenue to pay for LEOs, the guys I worked with only got $4 or $5 per ticket for the department, so you had to piss them off to actually get one! Then you take other departments where they would get 90% of it, and that is where you get the stupid 37 in a 35 ticket

Not sure if anyone already covered this for you but this could get worse for you..... I am sure the owner will file with his insurance, at that point the insurance company is going to come after you unfortunately since the vehicle was in your shops possession. The worst part is that since you chased him, your insurance company may deem you personally liable for the loss and not cover it leaving the responsibility on you personally.
I hope none of this happens to you but just wanted you to know so you can prepare your ass for this possible A--Fu--ing you might recieve.
So yes, just when you think things cant get worse..... They can and do!
Hope it works out, be sure to let us know.

Unfortunately I believe we have all turned into less of a person over the course of history. There are very few people left in this country that actually have passion and drive for what they do anymore compared to say 40 years ago. I know I find it harder every day for myself. Well, hopefully we can still rely on good old carma.

Really sucks about the truck jeff. Although im afraid the worst is yet to come.

Like all the others I wouldve done the same as you. Im young but hate most of the people my age. 5 years out of school I realize why I never took the time to make many friends, theyre all being locked up for heroin, cocaine and meth. Or dying because of it. Others are locked up for theft due to their addiction. The big deals go down right next to our place. They stake out there all the time and have made countless arrests. They're after big fish to the point that they ignore everything else going on around them to make sure and catch the important ones and not just the pee ons. I actually got pulled over by them in my Jetta because it looks kinda ghetto and I guess i was acting "suspicious". Out of nowhere i hear sirens and see a trailblazer and minivan in my mirror. Two guys run up both sides of the car with their hands ready to draw. Turns out I was suspicious because I sat with my head looking down in the parking lot when i got there to get some lunch. I was just texting, doing the right thing and waiting till I got to my destination, the next thing I did was go into the bathroom stall and I didnt flush the toilet they said. Well theres no paper towels in there so i had to use TP, and there was a trashcan by the toilet so why waste the water. It was an interesting experience.

Back on topic though. I know you dont care, and I hate to be a debbie downer but I feel like your life is going to suck for one of two reasons.

1. Youre cops are lazy like most of the cops around. Theyre so worried about properly getting information that they just get lazy. The lawyera have stacked the system against them and most dont want the hassle. You can expose them through the media or threaten them but the issue there is that they can then pin the entire accident on you by sayinh the guy wouldve had no reason to be driving that fast if you wouldnt of chased him. Then the insurance wouldnt work in your favor either. In addition they would throw the book at you for all of the other things you said and their conspiracies. With the way the system works now days, the their would hire a good lawyer and sue you for his damages. He would walk as a free man with a million dollar settlement and you would be left with nothing. In a small town the case would generate a lot of media interest as the tables turned on you and ruin your image as a professional businessman. In addition you would always be a target for the LOE's Unless you found a news reporter that would stay on your side the whole time, they end up flopping sides to whatever makes the juiciest story.

2. Legally, finacially and professionally your best bet is to sit back and take it up the ass. I would hassle the cops some more but tread lightly. Hire a good lawyer. For every 100 crooked lawyers that have ruined the judicial system there is one good one at least. Find that guy/gal. The gals do better. They get what they want.

The problem with that scenario is that youre going to be pissed off everyday because the system is so flawed. Everybody acts like they have a right to do anything they want and they can get out of it. Kids dont get their asses whooped or at least chewed out anymore so the fear of god is no longer in their minds.

If it is his real ID, bait him out of hiding. Itd be badass to get him to steal a car you have rigged up to shut down and trap him inside.

Good luck with all of it.
