I know most trucks built guys are usually shooting for much higher HP goals than 700-750 HP , our latest build was to build a truck for my Dad due to his truck loosing a piston , the reason we chose this HP level is that is were I felt we could have the truck be as reliable as possible while still being fun , wondering how many others have builds like this going on ? I really feel it is a good level to stop at for people who rely on there trucks and drive them daily .

This is what we chose parts wise to achieve our goal of 750 HP with zero loss of function and best reliability possible .

We needed something over built mostly because my Dad isn't easy on stuff , he tows very heavy and like to have plenty of power on tap .

Truck

2004 Crew Cab long bed Dually , 6" lift with 285/75R16 tire and Rockstar wheels .

Engine
.020 over Mahle performance pistons 16:5-1
Howards rods
Mild Stage 1 cam from Randy's Engine
head and main studs
key ways
new oil pump with pined gear
rebuilt cylinder heads with aftermarket springs .
and of course all the new bearings and rings as part of the rebuild

Fuel

120% stroker pump , 45 % over injectors and a FASS 150

Air

This was the a key ingredient to the reliability IMOP because most new bee's to this sport will beat a truck alot harder the most of us and will hold a truck at WOT with out any fear or understanding how long is safe to be at high EGT's , both towing and racing. So we gave it 1000 hp worth of air to keep egt's in check under any scenario and went the Triple Turbo route to not loose any drive ability compared to the stock turbo twin kit he was running before . So far with a 2500 usec race tune the truck stays under 1400 deg at my elevation , and on the tow tune ( 500 rwhp ) it wont go over 1200 deg while towing a heavy load .

Transmission

The trans wasn't to hard a GMAX kit from Suncoast , 1056 converter and some extra hydrolic tweaks and she was ready to roll .

here's a few pics of the truck it isn't as blinged out as others we have done but he was on a tight budget , I'm still trying to find the pic of it heading home, the maiden voyage he towed a 27ft 5ther with a 22ft flat bed trailer behind it from my place in SLC to St George Utah were he lives .

Looks like a fun tow truck Trent.

I'm doing the same type of build. The air will be there for 900+ but I'm gonna fuel limit myself to 750-800. I really just wanna compete in the 12.0/11.90 without pushing it hard.

Sounds like a interesting build. I'd like to hear about the reliability of the outcome and if it is truly reliable. Owning a dually and being a dually fan I'd like to see more pics of the truck.

Trent,

That would be an ideal build for me especially since I have identical fuel mods already. As a rough estimate, what do you think it would cost me parts and labor for the engine with said components used in your Dad's build?

Thanks

The engine portion of his build assuming your swapping the engine yourself and can assemble everything yourself but the short block I believe we were into it around 9k with the rebuilt cylinder heads , cam ,valve springs, head studs, gaskets ect .

As far as what is the ideal build thats tough to say we generally spec a whole build out as a entire package that changes depending on power level and budget , cosmetics and find the best balance between all of the area's to fit the budget for the project , there are too many variables and options budget tends to be king of deciding what you want VS what you can actually afford , the best bet is to work with who's doing the build / machine work and see what they recommend , and call and talk to others like myself and go over your goals and get as much advise as you can , you will get some conflicting opinions but take it all as a whole and make informed decisions .

Vary nice build it sure should be a pulling son of a gun. One quick question why the modded pump wouldn't all out reliability be with twin cp3's?

Budget mostly , I donated the stroker pump of my Race truck to help the old mans pocket book out and ill pick up another one before spring , other wise we probably would have went with dual Cp3's .

I'll take that into consideration. Thanks Trent.

Do I smell another 'Group Buy'? :roflmao:

J/K but that would be top drawer for me, a nice reasonable level. I'd probably just go for 600 HP of fuel as I just bought my 3rd set of tires  That slows me down more than anything.

On a nice tow tune, what longevity would you expect with that; 100K, 200K?

Weakest (shortest) links - G80, Torq conv, lift pump?

Pretty much the same build im doing (well you and i discussed that trent lol) and am shootin for 700. Truck will be hauling a load long distance most its life and cruising the streets the other part. If all goes well for 100k, it will be torn down again and inspected.

The other nice thing about over building a bit is if you ever decide to change your mind, your a tune flash and a few pieces away from going for 1k , on my dads truck a dual C kit and a reflash and he would easily be above 900 , the last truck we did the same turbo kit with 60% sticks did 940 at the rear wheels.
