Help with the truck that no one can tune

Ill say it again....if someone can get me some serious/detailed logs, voltages, temps, conditions, and then put a tick mark exactly where it commands REP on the log, I will look into making something to fix this.

Although that sounds good Ben, your proposal is like having a leaky roof and placing a bucket under the leak instead of fixing the root cause of the leak.

Wouldnt makin the truck run right regardless of what it takes kinda be like fixing a leaky roof??? Seems like if ben could make something that would allow it to run, owner might be happy. Just sayin.

There we go! :thumbup::D

Tony, wouldn't you rather have the leak on the roof patched while the roofing company gets time to come fix your roof the right way?

Ex. Wouldn't we rather do something for now that works so the man can drive the truck he put a ton of Money in until Ross has time for the true fix?

Kory, I think you need to read Ross's post again.

Sorry Cindy, I totally missed Ross' post... I understand that, so why not find what's causing the underboost code? Wouldn't seeing a mismatch in "D" PID vs "A" PID at least show you guys where about in the haystack to look? That's what I'm saying.

Mrs. Cindy
I can't speak for Tony , but I know of two trucks in my area that have both been tuned by Rob at ATP , both with same top charger , both with the same everything. Both of these trucks throw the p0299 underboost code repeatedly even with the code shut off . As far as I know to date , both trucks have not been fixed . I don't know what the fix is , nor am I pointing fingers at tuner or the tool the tuners are using to tune with. What I am saying is that so far the true variables that are the same on these trucks is cheetah chargers and or 4094vvt and p0299 codes . What's really weird and a hassle for the tuner is why only certain trucks are doing this . This in turn makes it hard for tuners to understand and naturally assume it was a mistake in the other tuner's tuning . Again I don't know the answer but I can say with the help of these guys close to me with these trucks, I am gonna do some serious logging over the next couple of days and will be happy to send it to whom ever wants a stab at them .

Thanks Trey

k fine I wont fix it. Ill just wait for you to pick through the BIN (thats what the actual file in the ecm is called), and fix it in assembler (a very low-level programming language that ross has to pick through in order to make it into a fancy GUI-based ECM calibration modifying tool (otherwise called efilive) that any idiot with a windows PC can use) :)

I dont have an LMM, I really dont care about fixing them if people think its stupid of me to put any effort into this. I have plenty of other projects and work to get done, its not like im bored and need something to do.

Call the shop trey when you get the tech II in your hands, you know the number.

If they say "Kory isn't available" tell them HAKUNA MUTATA!!! Lol...

Think so Ben, but the 7.5 scan tool confilicts some PIDS when trying to run simultaniously...I think the new V8 scan will fix these issues though when its released.

Who will be tuning the truck now?

We are happy to assist whoever is tuning it and if people are convinced it's a low boost error still then we can pursue that further, but the last test we had done with Tony the truck limped with zero DTC's being set after.

If someone gets us one of the trucks...I will put everything on hold and work side by side with you guys with precise voltages ect...and the techs here at the shop also until we find the cure... if its a physical issue...we will find it and report back the issue there as well.

All this leaky roof talk is giving me a boner. Going home to take a cold shower.

My truck doesn't code with pansy boost

Tuned for proper power it codes and loses power.

I think

As long as you don't tell Ross there is an Overhead chime warning too I'm sure he'll be happy to assist where possible ;)

I'm going to pretend you didn't say overhead chime on a duramax forum.. this is my safe haven from the real world... I think the secret squirrel sauce fixed all that anyways!

K back on topic sorry! Lol

Do all these LMM trucks with problems run the same base O/S?

Are there other LMM O/S you can try? Have you compared different LMM O/S to see if there is something there?

Ben,

Your age is really showing in your posts..........calm down, I just want a fix not not a band-aid.

Why would you want to not "find" or "fix" the problem ???? I do not believe that building a fooler in the long run is the right answer to the problem as it will pop up on other builds and other OS's.

Although I am sure everyone would appreciate another BT Gizmo the problem will still exist and I would rather the problem be fixed then covered up.

Maybe Brayden is right, maybe it's a sensor, maybe Kory is right, maybe it's a voltage anomoly, maybe I am right and something in the code is still waiting to be discovered........what I do not want moving forward is tuners telling EFI-Live they are NOT having troubles when they truly are and because they won't swallow their pride and bruise their ego to come out and say "WE HAVE A PROBLEM" things like this are not taken as seriously as they need to be until the owner of the truck throws his hands up and say WTF !!!! My truck won't run and nobody knows why !!!

Telling Ross that all is fine, never had a problem, first I have heard is doing a dis-service to EFI-Live and the community. I know we have a problem, I just don't know at this time if its a sensor, but what I do know is up until now with what we have for tables to adjust/set-up and DTC lists if you tell a code not to set it usually does not, with exception of a few of these LMM's

Who will be tuning the truck now?

We are happy to assist whoever is tuning it and if people are convinced it's a low boost error still then we can pursue that further, but the last test we had done with Tony the truck limped with zero DTC's being set after.

I have almost 30 hours in this with the builder, I don't care about being paid for my time, I just wanted and hoped to find the problem, but as Ross stated, we eliminated all DTC Codes and it would still throw a reduced engine power message at certain conditions. Without a code to go by Ross was throwing darts at a dartboard in the dark !!!!

I know its boost related because when it makes little or no boost it throws zero codes, when you try to manipulate the VVT to bring boost in quicker it codes, Rob failed and I failed in getting it to do what we wanted it to do.

So if everyone else wants to try it I will email you or post up Matt's stock tune so everyone can play around with it.

No because once it's band-aided it fooled it won't be followed up on, how do you fix it once it's runing good, if a fooler works !!

Yes,

and some coded and reduced power to a level that it idled and that's about it.

These OS/Segments are very, very specific to the truck model and year.

I am wondering if the underboost has to do with a transient table or the DSP5/OS.

I was going to try a single OS and see if it coded, but never got the chance.
I was supposed to meet up with Matt but the truck was at the builders shop in GA and I ran out of time to get seat time in it when I was on the road trip thru all those states.
