Here's the new thread not to derail from my for sale thread.

The truck is a 2004 4.3/4L60 2wd 1500

Full tank of fuel and me in it, it's 4260lbs. :roflmao:

Bought it for 2500$ and has 213k miles. Transmission fluid looks like duramax tcase fluid :roflmao:

Work truck interior, but power locks. has some Walmart special radio deck.

Goal is to go 9.99 with it.

I will be swapping a 2009 LY6 6.0 square port head (LS3 style) engine into it.
I will also be building the motor and stroking it out to 408CI 6.7L all forged rotating assembly.
Air will come from the twin S369SXE's I originally bought for the Duramax.
On the truck LS motors you can flip the manifolds to make it easier for turbos, or buy CTS-V manifolds. I plan on running between 15-20psi.

Fuel will come from 125lb/hr FIC injectors, and an Aeromotive fuel pump, it will run on straight E85.

Transmission will be a manual valvebody 4L80 by Mike L or Jakes, with a 3400 stall Pro Yank converter.

Caltracs, QA1's and some very big drag radials will be out back, some skinny's up front.

Will end up putting a 6 point cage in the truck at a later time for safety reasons.

I need about 750-800rwhp to run 10.0's at 4600lbs.

I cant wait to start this project and see what this little half ton can do.

Now I have to figure out WTF a spark plug is, how it works, and why I can rotate this engine over by hand

Sweet, that should easily put you in the 9.xxx index. I went and looked at one today. I think I'm going buy it! It's stupid how cheap they are for the power potential, I'm shooting for 550 rwhp in mine. Should get me in the 11's easily and I won't have more than 16k invested including the truck...:D

Yea, I almost feel giddy when I look at the prices. Thompson performance forged short block is 3,800 bucks ready to go.:spit:

How easy is it to swap a V8 into a V6 truck? I can find some nice V6 RCSB for a decent deal and am looking into them now. Or is it easier to just start with a V8 truck.

Brian, if you need the V8 frame brackets, let me know.

4240, eh? AC truck? I figured my little bomb weighed somewhere around 4000 to start. Did you get front/rear weight bias too?

nice buy Brian:thumb:
your project sounds fun, I'm always torn between the LS and Dmax :roflmao:

question tho...why an LY6 for only 15+ psi? Theres guys running the LS2/3/7 aluminum blocks to 25+ psi before cylinder pressures stress the block, 20psi with a decent shot of N2O, typically set up around 9.5/1 CR too. these guys are making 800-1000+ and running 9.6-10.2's in trailblazers...one guy just set the AWD record on a turbo LS2 (forged of course) and a built 4L70 @ 9.86 in the 1/4...

just sayin, why not save 100lbs if ya can?:hello:
also, why twins?
I'm not being combative buddy, just curious is all...
just seems like more work and added weight and heat

the go to for 1/4mi LS trucks seems to be a big single, I've seen a GT55 on an ERL custom LS2 427 and a 250 shot, push a TBSS brick to 9.2...but that was a total drag truck and not at all streetable at all
again, just curious to hear your thoughts:)

I've posted a good video below of Tom Nelson (Nelson Racing Engines) talking about LS engines. What works, what doesn't and why a stroker in a factory LS block isn't a good idea for longevity even tho plenty of fast guys are doing it. Interesting video for anyone with 20 minutes to burn. Around the 8:50 mark is when he starts talking about common mistakes in LS builds.

Good luck with the build Brian, plenty of guys have taken lots of the guesswork out of a boosted LS build. 9's shouldn't be too hard with your parts list.

I'd pick Josh's brain on the 4L80... I think he learned a lot when he tried to run from Jakes in the van.

And thanks for posting that video Levi.

well, if there's two things I'm sure of, it's there's pros and cons to both options...and Brian has done some homework on the subject and there is some madness in his methods
