the trans is on its way out... that i know. question i have is this: will a worn or slippin tc cause a high pitched growl or low whine sound when the truck is under power?? .... it seems to go quiet when i let off the go pedal, comes right back when i press it....

just curious, not really sure what else it could be. since the trans has been progressively gettin worse, i've noticed the sound becoming more pronounced, even so much as to be felt through the pedals as a faint vibration, maybe even described as a hum??

sounds like its comin from the front of the truck though..... locker/posi/bastard child rear end still locks up good, no wierd noises comin out of it....yet

any good way to check it and at least knock it off the list???

checked those. all still good. mebbe put the truck on blocks and run it?? like i said, nothing in P or N, even when revving. only when trucks in gear and moving.

it just doesn't feel like its coming from the back of the truck, but then again, i may be trying to make myself believe its the trans since i know its goin byby.:(

Noise could possibly be coming from your turbo ;)

that aint what i wanted to hear.:( ... here's an update. noise only appears once the trucks warmed up and it does it with T/H on and off.... no difference. would the turbo only make that sound under load..... meaning in park and revving isn't loading the turbo up enough to cause probs???

^ He's a 2 wheel peeler. The rearend vibration will travel throughout the truck via the drive shaft.

i like that!! ... :D
rearend vibration would be more of a rumble though, wouldn't it?? this shows up the second you push the go pedal down and it feels like its coming from the front. floor doesnt shake and truck doesn't shimmy or shake..... just the hum/high pitch vibration heard and felt through the pedal...

i guess i shouldn't worry too much about it till it breaks...:p ...cross my fingers its the trans....

Alot of noises coming from engine/turbo/trans will become more pronounced under load. Revving it up in your driveway isnt load Wes . How many miles does your truck have on it now?? See if your turbos eatin any oil is an easy place to start.

I saw a thread somewhere about a hole rubbed in the intercooler pipe near the powersteering pump, I wonder what kind of noise that might make

Check your exhaust system.. If the exhaust is rubbing against something it will make all kinds of noise.. Also check for leaks in the exhaust around the clamps....

my thoughts exactly Larry... :)

i dont know if this makes a difference or not, but the turbo sound is still very audible. not a screech or squeal, just normal turbo whine. you can hear the turbo even when that hum is coming through....

i'm gonna check for that in a bit..... i dont know about the noise it makes though. wont hurt to look.

nothing i can see is rubbing. exhaust is all welded, no clamps.

thanks for the suggestions guys. today, temps outside were ~65 all day, cloudy. truck never really reached 190*, where it usually sits, and i never heard the sound at all. seems like it only appears when coolant temps are at 190+ and trans is up to 180+. trans sast at 140-150 all day. no sound....:screwy: ....at this point, i'm hopin its the trans as i'm already gonna have to do a little something to it anyway. ... mike, i actually hope your right :D
