forged pistons?

im sure this has been talked about plenty of times before, but after cracking a lb7 piston, im kinda worried about going back with the same thing even if they are coated this time. but at the same time i want to be able to drive the truck on the road whenever i want. has anybody found a forged piston that can be dd if wanted?

From what I understand all the forged pistons aren't made for DD use. They don't have ring designs that are durable enough for prolonged use that would be associated with DD use. I sure wish some company would come out with some with the DD guys in mind.

That's the same thing I've heard too. It sucks for sure. You either have a set of pistons that can hold power but keep you from driving your truck, or you have a set of pistons that don't hold power but hold up to daily driving.

IMO you should be able to run Mahle as a DD they are not quite a forged piston

but im no expert on it.

So a set of stock cut, coated and delipped pistons from SoCal would not be expected to last any reasonable amount of time in a 1000RWHP DD? By daily driver I mean driving it on the street about 3 times a week and going to the track once or twice a week to really beat on her.

nobody is going to run a 1000 hp on the street.....atleast for very long.

i could not run abby in second gear with M&H drag radilas on the street without spinning all over the place! 1000hp is a lot!!!!!

detune the truck and run the power when needed PERIOD.

Arias is a good piston but for the street I think it may not be a best pick. The piston to cylinder clearance needed is a little loose for the street (my.02). The mahle is a little tighter. But with forged you are going to ware the skirts quicker. I got a bbc with forged slugs in it that had a lot of ware after a year of dd driveing

Dustin is going to put Arias in his truck when he rebuilds it. He still plans to DD the truck but I'm sure it won't get that many miles put on it a year. He looks at it as its easier to replace rings in a forged then a block when a stock piston let's go.

If your willing to put rings in from time to time the Arias pistons is going to be hard to beat! Cody N put 25k on his build before he took it down to look at it. The pistons hold up fine, it's the rings that wear. The clearance means nothing in a street motor(it expands with heat) and many street cars came with forged pistons from the factory and you just didn't know it. The extreme compresson and soot play a role with a diesel piston so I guess you have to pick what works for you. Jeff
