ford parts for my allison

check it out, on the left is the little baby stock allison trans cooler, and on the right is a cooler off a 6.0 ford. my trans has always run around 180-190 and since the last rebuild and adding more pressure it was up to 210 one day in town. i dont like that so a friend of mine that works at ford had 2 of these trans coolers laying around and ask me if i wanted to give it a try. ive got to say it made a huge difference. yesterday driving to work in the morning about 70-75 degrees outside usually the trans would get up around 170-180(its mostly 55mph roads), with the new cooler it got to 140 then dropped back to 130. then on the way home it was 92degrees out and in the city and stopping to get fuel and leaving the truck running, it never got over 150 but most of the time was around 140. i hate to say it but maybe the 6.0 fords have 1 good part on them.

Thats a great idea. Did you mount it in the same place? What about the lines? Any adaptors needed? What about a pic after the install?

Hope you're not using rubber hose and clamps. The Allison will sometimes see 200 psi in the cooler lines but most of the time will see about 83 psi. Those are dangerous prssures for hoses and clamps.

i can get a part number on it the next time i talk to my friend at ford. mine was free, ill have to check and see how much they are. he had 2 of them just sitting around.

Thats a great idea. Did you mount it in the same place? What about the lines? Any adaptors needed? What about a pic after the install?

i had to mount it upside down because its so big, but it looks good in there. i did not want to cut my factory lines(in case it didnt work) so i just pushed a piece of 5/8 hose down over the flare on the factory lines and clamped it,and then had to use a adapter/reducer to reduce from 5/8 to 1/2. then its hose into the cooler. i did not know how much pressure was there until mike posted. but it seems to be holding fine for now. i have everything double clamped and all fittings are barbed. thats the way it is on the fords and my friend said they run around 14x psi in their lines. but with my luck at the track tomorrow it will probably blow out. we'll see.

I cant remember now wich one I got but one of them I screwed the fittings from the old gm cooler into the earls. It was on the Hummer I put a duamax into a while back and it worked very nicely :thumb:

And um no there are no good parts on a 6.0 they all suck :spit:

I've got AN lines on mine and even they leak a bit at the connections from all of the pressure on them. I went with the 200PSI hose and wish now I would have spent the extra and got the 325PSI stuff instead. You can buy a B&M SUPERCOOLER from SUMMIT and it will be an almost drop in replacement except for the top mounting bracket.

Mike knows his stuff, I dont think he'd just blow smoke up your butt, I just think it's to costly a leason to try and learn on your own. On a seperate not, you could probably get AN lines and use hardline adapters and not have to worry about that, but I cant see the Ford piece costing less than a B&M or substitute, unless you could score one for free or get a deal on a take off or somthing.

Not saying he dont...but the op has obviously already drivin this truck all over the place, if there was that much pressure he wouldnt have even made it out the driveway!!!
