So this is effecting pre-emissions vehicles as well now? I have always found it funny that the gas market has not been effected yet, especially since its way bigger.
Yeah, my 2005 already had it removed when I bought it.

I just went back and checked, I ordered mine on 12/24, so I guess I wasn't as close to the cut off as I thought.
I installed it three weeks ago.
IF its well tuned, there is little to no smoke, but that can be said about everything. I have seen many ricers and other vehicles including lsx, blowing black from being way to improper tuning. Its the number of people that want a turbo/super car and don't have the money to do it properly. As far as NOx levels, I would be interested to see what a 700HP lsx puts out. As compression/cylinder psi gets raised, as well as cylinder/exhaust temp, the higher the level of NOx goes up.

I've seen a TON of F150 Ecoboosts roll more coal than my LB7 Suburban thanks to crappy tuning. And I bet their NOx levels aren't all that great either.
If you are trying to keep a high-boost gas motor alive, the easiest way to do it is running VERY rich. That leads to the same particulate matter as diesels have. Just look up Gasoline Particulate Filters. VW and BMW have already started putting them on cars sold in Germany, and many cars sold in Europe will have them by 2020 for the Euro 6d standard. I bet the US isn't far behind unless something changes.
There really isn't much of a difference between gas and diesel emissions anymore, especially as diesel engines have had lower and lower compression ratios, and gas engines have had higher and higher compression ratios. They are converging into one engine in a lot of ways.
It is nice to see gas cars start being held to the same standard as diesels. I think we will start to see some more pushback, since so many "normal" people have gas cars. Imagine if Joe Everybody's gas car threw a check engine light for a regen issue on the GPF then restricted them to 55 MPH. That butthurt will bring about some real change, I bet.

If you think tougher gas emissions are the answer your nuts... You can bet your ass the gov is watching the webs.
I'm not advocating tougher gas emissions, just speculating that when it happens, there will be more pushback than what they currently see from diesel owners. It is just a numbers game. If the same percentage of gas particulate filters see issues as DPFs, there will be hundreds of times more people mad about it.
If it was up to me, I'd have one emissions standard for all fuel types in a given weight class. Cars would meet standard A, trucks would meet standard B. I don't care if they are gas, diesel, electric, propane, or nuclear. Make the playing field level. Then set the standard somewhere sane. I think we are at the point where cars aren't a major contributor to the emissions in the US. From what I read, a large amount actually comes in on the tradewinds from China. So what is the point of super strict vehicle emissions laws if it isn't going to change the atmospheric pollutant levels? Leave them be while we sort out the other issues, then revisit it in 10-20 years.
If the EPA really cared about the planet, they would be doing everything they could to help China clean up its act, but they aren't. The tighter they make the laws over here, the more manufacturing moves overseas where the factories can pollute more. But I think I am preaching to the choir here.
One thing I don't understand is why the EPA comes down hard on the small people. The amount of people with modified vehicles is minute. I work in the utility industry, the pollution that comes out of modified vehicles is NOTHING compared to what comes out of a single coal fired powerplant.
I think we should ban volcanos. No one wants to talk about them and what they spew around the world.
