I've been working day in and day out trying to get a full fledge shop running up here in New York. I'm kind of glad that I didn't do it as I can see where this is going, I just didn't think it would go to this extent. My favorite part about this sport is the performance aspect of it. As I once dreamed of being a shop owner, I don't think that is doable because of what the future is going to bring us. Fortunately, I invested alot of my money into equipment as I like heavy machinery and operating them. So at least I can still have fun with my truck and start doing jobs with my equipment. I'll just go back to light duty diesels as being a hobbie and not a job.

Way back when my car was simpler, I "tried" to pass legit sniff test with cats right off the headers, and basically pegged the sniff meter. Not even close, but was a 107lsa cam so was a wasted attempt to begin with. Current setup is much better at idle and part throttle but anything in PE mode is 10.5afr ...

Thankfully, and quite ironically, NJ has made my truck and car exempt from emissions. Costs to much to inspect old stuff :rofl:

So the epa is telling us we can’t modify our trucks. I guess we’ve known it was coming to an extent. We can’t modify them for competition like drag racing or sled pulling either. Even if it is a unregistered off road only strictly “competition only “vehicle if the suppliers of the parts won’t sell them to us we are effectively done. When are they going to stop NASCAR, NHRA drag racing, Indy car racing, monster truck events, and NTPA tractor pulls? When will SEMA get all these organizations and automotive aftermarket suppliers together? There might be enough leverage there to get the EPA and administrations attention.

If this continues I bet the value of used diesel trucks goes through the floor. Who’s going to spend big money on a used truck that’s coming out of warranty when the only way to fix it when the emissions equipment fails is to have the dealer rebuild it? And then keep paying them to do it again when it fails again.

I have been spending a lot of time learning to diagnose and repair OE emissions systems on these trucks. It will become a big need more and more as the government tightens their grip on our industry. The dealerships charge too much labor and also do not neccesarily know how to do it either.

It makes me really sad, its a crappy day in america when a good ole boy cant put a loud exhaust on his truck because of ridiculous environmental regulations. I want to put a freakin exhaust on my truck, and this is america, and I should be able go put an exhaust on it. And It doesnt matter how reliable these emissions systems are, they ruin the engine. And I want some noise for goodness sakes.

I watched a recent video on powerstroke help, he was talking about how egr drastically shortens the engine life, because the recirculated exhaust is an abrasive that is being introduced into the combustion chamber, and that these engines are pretty much done at around 200-300K. The cylinder hone is just ruined and the cylinder wall is just completely glazed over. I always wonder why we even have air filters anymore, its not like there isnt a constant abrasive running thru the system anyway, the epa will probably ban those eventually too anyway.

And I can only think its gonna get a lot worse, all these socialists in congress coming up with these ridiculous plans like the green new deal, that basically destroys the entire economy, bans cars, destroys the aviation industry, puts particulate filters on cows, costs 93 trillion dollars, and plunges the country into a dictatorship because thats the only way aoc would be able to achieve trash like this. Its what we call in my family a shit show.

The challenge for the small indie shop is to be able to afford to stay on top of the diag equipment updates it seems

Flo Pro page now just showing no sales to California, instead of USA is that still the case? Makes me nervous to handle that product because it sounds like it’s now on the radar

Now could a Canadian company ship a downpipe back exhaust system to a buyer in the US? If they can sell us tuning I don’t see why not. And how in the hell can they stop the sale of an LB7 exhaust system?

Lift pumps have never caused an emissions issue nor been deemed a problem by the EPA. The EPA's stance seems to be that modifying anything emissions related, on-road or off-road use, is illegal. A filter back exhaust has never been a problem, a downpipe has never been a problem as long as it pertains factory bungs for sensors/equipment. Anything CARB certified isn't an issue.

Diesel air intakes are (or were) generally exempted, as they don't really alter emissions. But turbo, etc., would need a CARB E.O. number, I would think.

I would agree with Dave. I don't think an intake is going to be an issue as you cannot find a way to make it alter emissions, plus most of the big name intakes are CARB certified. Same with larger diameter CAC plumbing, larger CAC etc.

Looks like these companies are gonna have to get CARB numbers for all their products like banks did years ago.
