lol compare a ppe hot plus 2 to efilive then compare a smarty to efilive and that will be about the difference:thumb: my guess even though smarty has more functions i think its a good comparison. and even if its not huge gains in power efilive has so many options that it would be nice to data log, custom tune, scan, etc,

Has anything been said about the transmission if you will be able to tune your trans in any way type or form on the dodge? the ally you can but the 48re is alot different:confused:

I am for this new step EFI has chosen to take. This should also help EFI grow as a company as well and be able to be a Standard in Diesel Tuning. There will always be a market for canned tuners. There is a huge market for them even with the duramax group, however this will bring dodges to a more cost effective playing field, and spread more competition and push everyone even further.

You all know, the faster them Dodges go, the faster us Dmax's will start to go too...And that will bring some insane #'s the to sport....

to make the dmax go any faster, a lot of questions have to be answered that no one really has the answer to...

Rant Alert:

What gets me is, the EFI guys are playing with Dodge ECM's and still have not gotten V2 interface device to work 100% standalone. How long has the V2 been on the market?
Data logging - yes, standalone flashing - no... What else was the V2 going to do... I can't remember its been so long. How much was the V1, $5xx. The V2 is $800. $300 for the V2 interface device and it does not live up to it's $300 price tag. WTF.

RANT OVER... Carry on...

The V1 didn't support CAN ... The V2 was a necessity.

For the price being able to tune two vehicles I think you're getting a good deal ;)

You could always buy something else :rofl::rofl::rofl:

I don't speak for the EFILive team, but here's my take on it.

Yeah, seeing the V2's potential is like seeing a whole bunch of LARGE packages under the Christmas tree with your name on them but your cruel parents put up the tree in July.

But at this stage, only the $4000 Tech2 package is a standalone system, and it does not have the capabilities for custom programming. EFILive will datalog many things that the Tech2 cannot.

No other product on earth that I've seen has a better feature set for custom programming our trucks, regardless of price.

My guess is that when EFILive decided to support CAN programming (for us, LBZ+) and their V1 unit would not fit the bill, they put together a 10 year plan when designing the V2. "What kinds of things do we want to be able to do with this hardware in the future?" They made a shopping-list of all the things that they wanted done, and made sure the hardware would support it.

In the world of consumer goods, it is bizarre. Very few devices are planned with future expansion in mind. Normally the path is to make the hardware support what they need TODAY, then expect you to throw away their 2007 model and buy a 2009 model to get an additional feature.

Heck, if you want to upgrade your engine in a Prius, do you think Toyota makes provisions for it? :D

I'll admit though, when I hear folk mention EFILive's $799 price and question why they don't get more in the box, it baffles me. My Tech2 cost over $4k, and they want $1200 a year for updates. One of my machines at work needs a $6000/yr software upgrade fee. My CAD system is about $1200/yr for updates. This notebook I'm typing on was $1200, and I bought it after I bought EFILive. Both my V1 and V2 still work flawlessly, yet this computer is dying. As have 2 others purchased since EFILive came out.

If you want to blame someone for EFILive using their limited resources on expanding into other Common Rail engines, blame guys like me. Many of us started pestering EFILive many years ago to move out of familiar territory and expand into the unknown. GM has the MOST custom programming support of any auto brand in the world. I have used at least 3 different brands of custom tuning packages for a Vette. Probably many more. The other brands have far less tools available, and far less available experience to tap.

Like I've said before, my goal is to make the EFILive crew thrive. Not because I consider them my friends, but so their company stays healthy and well-funded. Products like LS1Edit and others essentially croaked because they did not expand fast enough into new markets. I want EFILive to be around 20 years from now.

Great work guys , I am not worried about the dodges getting EFI , i think they will be able to get more out of them but not a huge amount , I dont think any extra fuel will be had , just fine tuning like better control over injection timming and such . We still have a better air pump and in stock form a more potent CP3 . I welcome all competition and am freinds with several guys that run dodges , like was stated before , if they run faster we will just step it up and continue to push the envalope

As much as it sucks to say, I predict world domination for the Dodge's if they get anything for tuning like what we currently have. They are gtting 9's without EFI, just think of how fast they will be runing with it!!:(

Agreed, Mike Drevers truck picks up no mph from 1000ft. to 1320ft. and he runs 9.70's. 12 valves and dmax's will be in big trouble.

Heres something else to ponder.... Last I hear Cummins takes alot of offense with people trying to custom tune their engines... Hopefully a lawsuit won''t araise over this

WICKED DIESELS

you need more fuel
The problem might be in the ECU's capabilities. I am pretty sure the injector drivers, will not do alot more than a programmer can command at this time. Time will tell.

On a side note, all you guys hating on the Cummins might have your eyes opened up in a hurry. I think both the Cummins and Duramax are a close match for each other, if this opens the door for increased power, then be warned. There are many extremly talented guys who are heavy in the Cummins, some might even have a few teeth missing:D

I think some of the Dodge guys are taking our comments way too serious. They need to read the banner at the top of the page and understand what this board is all about. It's about World Domination for the Duramax.

All the staff here are dyed-in-the-wool Bowtie enthusiasts. We aren't going to apologize for thinking our hotrods are the best.

The technology is currently in a constant state of change. What is fast today will change tomorrow. The Ford 6.4 is certainly going to a contender as well. Advanced digital tools for engine tuning are the future of diesel hotrodding, regardless of whether there is a sheep or a Viagra pill emblem on the tailgate or a real truck logo.

Brayden and Pat offer good perspective on our product. In addition to what they have said, I'll add that Cummins may have held up standalone features by about an hour or at most 2 hours.

This is because of the way our development team works - Ross does all the ECM mapping, Paul writes all the user software. They have completely different skill sets, use different programming languages, and have different development objectives. DSP for LBZ/LMM, the Cummins ECM, and our other soon to be announced ECM's have all been developed without using our standalone project resources.

We know our standalone project is behind in terms of release - this has been discussed many times before. This really isn't the place for it - take it up in one of those discussions.

Cheers
Cindy

Shoo, I LOVE EFI Live and am glad the poor CR guys are gonna get some love in the tuning department. Stacking this box, on this setting with this tuner on that % to get timing at X and fuel at Y and pressure at Z is rediculous! Then heaven forbid it doesn't work and they have to change the settings to try something else. And we fuss about a 30sec. flash with a tuner.

Does it mean the CR Cummins will be even stronger than it already is? You betcha! Will it be night and day difference? I don't think so because there was a lot of options to get close to optimum with diff. combos of boxes and tuners but some refinement will definitely help them out and if nothing else, make getting the same numbers a little easier and less of a headache.

I can't say enough for how awesome the product is that EFI Live has produced. We are uber lucky (and most certainly spoiled) to have such a tool!! :thumb:

...

I doubt it. If the ECM can fire 3 injection events at 2000 rpm, it should fire 1 at 5000 without problems I'd imagine. I think they will find it's another issue that can be tuned out of it.

Here's a better question. Can you really make more power in CR at 5000 than 4000? Over-rev'g is a bunch-o-fun, but area under the curve determines what RPM range is significant.
