thats not the first cummins i have seen that split the block! they split along the freeze plugs and the cam. there is another vid on youtube about a tractor with a cummins in it that did the exact same thing shows pics of the pistons still in the chassis lol

that tractor is a DT466 Block not a cummins. The original poster did not post it correctly. Dont know why, dont remember why, hence why the comments were disabled. If you look at it a little closer it becomes very obvious it is a 400 series block versus a cummins. Add to that the fact that engine and sheetmetal need to match in a lot of classes of tractor pulling however not all of them as could be the case with the class this tractor was in.



As for the OP, that is a prime example of why they require straps/cables in pulling and such. If the safety gear wouldve been on there wouldnt be a hole in the ceiling.

That's nuts. There's another video on youtube with a alcohol tractor that did the same thing. I bet the guy shit when it happened. I know I would have.

Yeah, that's the guy rob. I don't imagine that failure hurt him too bad financially. They roll into pulls in high class style. I'd guess their hauling setup is well over $150k.

Their engines have always sounded different to me. I commented about it one time & I believe 05smoker mentioned that matt teams up with DMS & they were doing some things different than most, hence, different sound. I know it sounded odd but holy moly when she came alive it was the real deal!

That's still insane catastrophic failure though. Wow! :eek:

That is the motor from Never Let it Rest. The block failed as you can see. Sleeves were still with the head when it hit the floor. No internal parts failed. They all were destroyed slapping the remaining half of the block. It was sickening to hear. This was a 20 year old kid that did the bulk of the build himself. It will run again. Just not sure how soon.

Motor was pulled to go dyno tune for the air to water setup. Truck gained a couple hundred hp just before this happened.

Pat the dyno is in Michigan. It is what GMS uses to dyno his super farm engines so it can handle the power.

FYI the hauler was dirt cheap. Truck they built not so much so. :D

Wow that was intense. Not sure why they didn't shut it down as you could clearly hear it didn't sound right when it started to spool.

So was that dyno set to tight you guys think? Seemed like it really pullled the shat out of the motor for a long time. Just curious I don't have any dyno experince

FWIW St Joe Diesel has an engine dyno that can handle it, ive watched 1800hp 4.1 tractors on it pull the motor down till it dies. We are working on getting it set up for a dmax now. Did that truck ever pull against the big boys? Haisleys, scheids? I was just wondering. Im not a fan if big cubes myself, and most big cummins guys tend to think the same way.

What is interesting to me is the engine dyno. Very few engine dynos will handle the torque a bombed diesel puts out. AFAIK there are none in the west.

When I was looking at dynos, they all recommended at least a speed doubler on the engine output for diesel.

I know nothing about dynos really but know that over here in the midwest there are plenty of dynos that can handle immense amounts of torque from pulling tractor engines, which make quite a bit more than trucks for now.

We have a ProFab 2 to 1 box that goes between the engine and the Dual water brake.

Seems to hold the big horsepower and torque pretty well.

Then they got a heck of a deal... What they were in at the last Stanford, ky pull of the year was NICE outfit. Perhaps I was over exxagerating but it's nice.

I'm foolish to have said that failure didn't matter too. IDK what I was thinking. Regardless, that sucked & is no easy pill to swallow regardless of financial situation.
