Dodge= whip cream covered with poo.

GMC= rods and pistons covered in poo

I love GM, always owned 'em, 25 years worth. If i was to do it again, knowing what i know now... I'd do the Dodge. Cummins parts are cheaper, more people make 'em, twins are cheaper. On and On and On.

If you KNOW you're gonna break it... buy the one cheaper to fix.

Ask yourself why you need more than 600+ HP? Maybe that'll help you out? IMO- power without control and traction is worthless...

Good luck in whatever you decide, it'll be fun.:D

Motor parts may be cheaper, but the truck isn't cheaper to fix, and dodges break ALL THE TIME. The truck is total junk and will cost you what you save building the motor. I have several friends that own dodges and they are always working on them or taking them to the dealer. Some things are big and other things are just small things that break because they are built like total junk.

OK, I'm sure everyone knows how I feel about dodges now:rofl: But I would buy a Ford with a Cummins;)

I think they can make about like a duramax with tuning, intake and exhaust - around 500rwhp. They have to spend a little more on their tuning though due to having to stack stuff. I think it's pretty customary for them to upgrade injectors for that area of power as well so that's an additional cost not typically associated to a DMAX build at that power level.

HOWEVER, with the addition of dual CP3s, a good charger, injectors, the correct tuning and the typical supporting mods (fuel pump, exhaust, transmission/clutch, etc.) they can get 800+rwhp pretty commonly.

I THINK that one in FL that just recently ran in the 9s is basically a reg. cab cloan of the "wicked" truck that freightrain whipped at the pulls is a single charger, dual cp3 truck on #2 only IIRC. All stock bottom end. I'd venture to bet that it's on borrowed time at that level though. From where they have to do so much stacking of boxes and tuners and stuff, IMO, they have to really pay attention to the timing and keep it in check to keep their stock bottom ends in tact. I think Dockboy found which combinations had way too much timing the hard way on his way to 800rwhp #2 only.

Also, while I'm not afraid to praise the Cummins on their abilities and do respect them, I do NOT prefer them. As evident by my choice of what I drive, what my wife drives and my choice to put a DMAX in my 83 instead of a Cummins. If I were smart, or not so loyal/in love with the DMAX, I'd do the Cummins because it's far more easy and would probably be worth similar money once complete. BUT that's not where my heart is. I've had a Dodge Cummins, loved it but just love my GM vehicles and more importantly, the DMAX a lot better. It's not necessarily because the DMAX is better or Cummins worse. Just a personal preference and loyalty to GM and the DMAX.

Nother testament:

I love my D-max and wouldn't have any other truck now! I used to drive an ole 95 PSD, great truck, would have lived forever had it not been totaled, id still be driving it. So i got my LB7, I BOUGHT IT w/ 162,000mls. Its had only a few issues, injectors but thats an LB7 thing. About 1mo after owning it i had dumped close to $8K in mods in it and have added to that as ive owned it and i beat the sh!t out of it! It's got close to 200K miles on it now, all hard life miles! Since ive owned it its likly been pushing 500hp at the crank and i'll occasionaly push likly over 600hp spraying the hell out of it with meth/water injecton! I've sent my Ally on a death-march and its still alive too! I fully expect ill end up blowing it up sooner or later. I now have a cheap Benz diesel to drive daily so thats nice but it wasn't always that way. You can play nice for a while but if you wanna play hard, expect to pay later! Might get away with alot and might not, luck of the draw!

I've got a twin turbo Common Rail Cummins under the hood.
It's about to get a fully ported/polished head with billet intake manifold and a 2nd CP3 to go along with everything else. Hoping for 850-900 hp on fuel only.

I quit counting what it cost....but it's close to 30 grand for the whole conversion, parts, labor, trans build, etc.

Trapps over 112 on street tires spinning the first 50' or so. I'm too lazy to bolt on slicks. LOL
It's heavy too....7560 with me in it on a calibrated scale.

I'll get it on slicks after I finish the new head and get the dual pumps on....I haven't been real serious about seeing what it can do lately....just been driving it and playing with it.
