I have an s474 im gonna compound with the stocker for now and someday bigger. Short term goal, 600+ daily driver. I dont want to pull the motor again so i figure build the internals now and i can always do bolt on's later.. Idk maybe im going about this all wrong, thought about throwing in a good used motor and leaving it stock too

What's your power goal?

I'd skip the billet mains and put that toward parts you NEED, like valves and such :D

agreed

you wont need billet mains for that power goal or really till you start pushing past 1000rwhp imho (others may differ). what pistons are you going to run?

I'm at 660 RWHP on stock mains with just studs and a line hone. If you keep the torque reasonable, you can go higher HP without billet mains IMO.

A true 600+ WHP is a stinking lot of power in real life. 660 pushes my truck at 8,300 lb to a 13.08 @ 104MPH in the quarter mile. With a lighter setup, it'll rip like mad.

I wish I knew :spit:. I can't account for about 500 lbs of the weight. The rest comes from a bed tank full of diesel, tool box, air compressor, and lift gate.

I jumped on the salvage auctions and found quite a few duramax's burned up which would make a perfect donor for mine. i'm starting to lean towards throwing in a used longblock and running it stock while I build the original motor as I can afford it, which may take months to years to do it right. What year's will swap into an lbz platform? Correct me if i'm wrong but the LMM's are almost identical other than the emissions but what about LML's?

If I recall, any 2003-2006 engine (LB7-LBZ) interchange electrically, and any 2008-2014 (LMM-LML) interchange, but you can't put a LML into a LBZ body and have the electrical systems "talk".

to drop in and go, you need to look for any 06 LBZ to 10 LMM. if you get an LMM, there might be little htings here and there you need to change from LMM to your LBZ though i cnat think of any off the top of my head. the injectors are different at the tips between the two but the same otherwise.

03 lb7 to 05 LLY use a different crank reluctor wheel. to use your ECM, you will need to either mod the reluctor wheel or swap yours onto the crank. you will also need to use the 03-05 balancer and fly wheel, do not use yours, they are different. to save headache, i would just use the short block of the 03-05 stuff.

LML you can pretty much just use the short block but again, IIRC the crank reluctor wheel needs swapping and you MUST use the balancer and fly wheel that are on LML engines. then you can bolt on your top end and go.

easiest route is 06-10 engine. gets you good heads too

Great info!! Thanks man! Appreciate all the help from you guys. Haven't been on duramaxdiesel's forums very long and I can already tell it's a very close-knit community here

Yes, regency was was a third party company that customized new trucks from GM before going to dealerships, they have since gone out of business. Most regency packages had fancy paint, maybe interior work, and lift/tires. These were sold for a premium markup at dealerships. Fairly common in the Midwest.

Huh can't believe I've never heard of them. From what I can tell they reupholstered and added heat to the leather seats, leather on the door panels, painted the mirrors, billet grille, rims, chrome tip and Regency badges. Wish I could of seen the truck before it was wrecked I bet it was pretty nice!
Well if anybody is interested the seats and door panels are for sale.

Ya Regency made pretty nice trucks. I didn't know they went under. They would do anything GM I think. I know I have seen Vans and SUVs.

Update: So found a complete lbz from a local guy who was pretty sure it only had a blown turbo but wasn't sure. So I brought it back to my shop and did a compression test. Found cylinder #1 had no compression, rest were around 280psi. Pulled the head tonight and found the culprit. I have a set of standard bore LB7 pistons but im worried a hone won't be enough. Ill take the motor into Empire next week and see what they have to say.
