I know that truck! I've been following it on YouTube since you started building it. Good stuff.

Looking forward to see what you do with the DMAX. If you put half the effort in you put into your white truck, it is going to be epic.

Well now I see why everyone uses aftermarket motor mounts..

The worst piston, but none of them cracked surprisingly. You can see where the outer edge started to melt away..

Driver's side.. Would you guys worry about that discoloring?

Only cylinder wall damage I found was on this cylinder, i'm hoping it can be honed out what do you guys think

can you feel it with your finger nail? also need to know the current bore size as well to tell ya if you have much room to hone.

Bent push rod are not a bad thing if they were the only problem. If something has to give I'd like it to be something cheap and the weakest link. The guys who put in billet push rods are doing it backwards in my opinion. They are cheap and easy to replace.

You'll need to get an accurate bore gauge to see how much you can hone out before you hit the service limit of the block.

I ended up with a couple light scratches on my cylinders (couldn't catch a fingernail though), and it doesn't have any ill-effects. Compression is good, no oil consumption, etc.

Since a hone is cheap, you might try honing it out a bit, and see if you can catch a nail on the scratches anymore. If not, you're probably good to go.

Yea my nail catches it...Just stock bore, I don't have a bore gauge to get exact

yeah id have to know how worn the bore is and what piston/size of those to know what you could get away with. its more than likely going to need a bore. .001-.002 hone isnt much and thats about all you can squeak out

service limit isnt so much the concern as piston to wall clearance.

If you run good heads valves won't stick. And therefore good pushrods won't have any I'll effects.

Stock pushrods will not take the pressure required to keep up with stiffer valve springs, high RPMs, and elevated boost and drive pressures.

I just got off the phone with Chad at Empire diesel. He recommended going .20 over because the cylinders usually warp when pistons melt. They can do all the machine work including billet main caps and throw in the used carillo rods I have for around 2500. For another 1200 they will assemble the short block. I'm leaning towards just having them finish it out to a long block and be done. Their shop is only 30min from me which will save a few bucks on shipping, now I just need to find a money tree :thinking2:

2500 including rebuilding the heads?
