Custom Cat twin Filter setup

So I'm a complete numb when it comes to ANYTHING diesel. What are the benefits of this setup? Only useful for built motors or ok for stock setups also?

Detailed install directions? Is it only DIY setups or aftermarket kit setups also?

Higher efficient fuel filters to keep more junk out of the fuel injection system.. Depending how you do it.. Filters are cheaper (OEM pushing ~40.00 each last about 10k) also bigger filters can also extend service intervals

Stock micron rating is 6microns... Alot of use swap to 2 micron, which is substantially smaller particals then 6..

I set mine up with availability, 2M capacity, and long service intervals.. I run same fuel filters size wise as semi trucks.. Normally I change about 80-100k or end of fall when the risk of fuel gelling gets relevant. I have gotten bad fuel and that ment changing filters as well

I put 100,000 miles on my truck between January to end of September this year.
Air dog, fass fuel lab make relatively easy DIY kits that have better filters and lift pump run about 5-600 iirc

does anyone know the part number to the Caterpillar Fuel Water Seperator Sediment Bowl that fits the 326-1642 filter?

new here... and i realize this is an old thread, but rather than start a new one figured i'd ask here:

looking into an airdog for my rig (lbz). wondering if y'all recommend swapping out the stock filter for a CAT in addition to the additional filtration an airdog would provide, or if it's recommended to leave the stock filter as is with a filter/pump addition??

I know cat filters are superior to most filters on the market, some will argue with me but IDGAF. I have cut them open and compared. I deleted my factory head as I run Twin's and it was buried under the hot pipe. Personally I believe the more the better as far as filters go, if there is nothing wrong with the factory base leave it. But run an ac delco filter, to many issues with the plastic aftermarket filters. Shouldn't need to change that factory head filter but every couple years unless you get some really shitty fuel.

Albert, are you bulk heading from the pump to the engine or did you put in some kind of return?

I have mine running straight to the cp3 but was wondering if I should put a return to keep the pump happier.

I also found a 10 psi check valve so the relief line would close if pressure drop below 10psi

Dead heading Arek? Yes, I run straight to the pump. Any lift pump with a built in relief/regulator shouldn't need a separate return line as the excess/unused fuel will just loop it's self at the pump. It may run a bit warmer but in 5ish+ years with this BD Flowmax I have had no lift pump issues. I also run at 12 psi and drops to 9-10 psi at WOT on a 3200us tune.

Yeah haha. That's good to know. I've got a fass pump so it should be fine. It runs around 14 at idle. No idea what it is at wot because the gauge is under the truck. I guess I won't be messing with it then.

I'm running a Holley gearotor 150.. does 15@idle and 9-12 cruising.. Deadhead plumbing

Be careful with that one. I just had mine go out on me - either the seal weep hole got clogged and allowed diesel into the motor and it disintegrated the brushes or they flat out disintegrated on their own. It isn't flow through either.

Both fuel lines have been replaced with -8/-6. I left enough line between pump and 2M filter I can pull it off the pump and hook it to the F/W filter with minimal air in the system.
I thought about the fuel lab pumps.. but none where in stock when last one failed

There's alot of pumps vane and gearotor design between 200-450.00

Well current Holley pump just shorted out blowing 3 fuses in a row.. was growling little this morning..
It limped the truck but didn't shut me down. One more try with warranty then I'll change to something else

I wonder if the brushes wore out like mine. Yeah, I would have warrantied it; but it bothers me putting something back in I know will fail. They're okay for racing, but just not built to the duty requirements of daily driving in my opinion.

Maybe message this guy and see if he still has 1 available; he was selling them for $255 and it's normally $4xx.00 for that pump. They were manufactured in April of 2015 (I called Fuelab with the serial numbers and they said that were they were up to date parts wise too), they've just been sitting on hit shelf and mine the box wasn't even opened yet - it has been working great since I've had it and much quieter than the Holley before - that thing was awful. Although, I have a sump now as the LBZ fuel pickup really is pathetic (3/8 iirc) for what the pumps can pull - My Holley didn't have any cavitation damage in the gearotor, but I constantly heard it loading and unloading the motor from the relief.
