If anyone needs more pictures, or would like me to ship them the crank for inspection, just let me know.

Thanks!

I'm wondering how many of the breaks had anything to do with water methonal injection. I had a snow system installed on mine about 10 months prior to busting the crank, and I'm pretty sure I cracked it soon after it was installed by doing a boosted launch (something really weird happend anyway). I babied her for the next 10 months or so until she died driving on the freeway.

Anyway, I know my snow system was installed incorrectly at first. Mechnaics had it plumbed wrong and I am pretty sure the amounts going into the differnt intakes were incorrect. I'm sure that whatever problems DMax cranks have that any imbalance in the water/methanol can really compound it quickly.

Anyway, I'm going to get rid of my snow prior to running her again. The rebuild is about to start.

Interesting. I ran water/meth for a year or two before I put my S464 on and then 60 000km later broke the crank.

Is there a running list or is anyone keeping track of what engine models are failing the most? LB7, LLY, LBZ, LMM, LML ? It seems to me this started with the LMM engines.

Or, is it that the power levels capable of breaking these cranks is more and more common now than it was back before 2007. The wild card is the stock power engines that are failing. How many LB7 and LBZ stock power engines broke a crank?

I know that being in a competitive sport like drag racing or sled pulling where we all continue to push are vehicles harder and harder is gonna break parts here and there and I'm not complaining about the cranks I've ruined doing it but what really gets me is these trucks aren't cheap by any means and you have stock trucks with broke cranks. That's pretty upsetting and to be honest it's kinda got me wondering if my lbz to rig is gonna last or take a crap on me. I'm really glad that guys like fingers and many others on here are doing everything they can to try and figure out how to stop these problems. Thank you to everyone who's contributed all the good information on here it's really taught me a lot.

I agree it's a bit unnerving. Thank you everyone helping figure it out. :thumb:

X2 I defiantly would have a lot more peace of mind building a motor and knowing that the crank won't be the weak part, especially when you hear horror stories of trucks that break the crank more than once at a high hp/full blown build. I'm hoping that by the time I do a build we will have more info and a solution made. If not then it looks like an alternate firing cam, new crank, and girdle will be parts of the build.

I don't know if it has been brought up, but I know Banks released an announcement of a billet crank at SEMA iirc. Does that sound right? Has anyone had any time tone examine it? I wonder if they know something we don't or if they just increases the lobe and counterweight sizes and called it good.
