I'm not really interested in the fact that you can/could spin that RPM but more so if you could sustain it for 2 minutes with low egts

Just playin' with ya RKTmech.. :thumb:

10,001 posts.. Wow.

Wow that is a lot of post:eek: I guess I never realized some of you had that many posts

To be serious though I am pretty sure Banks was claiming they spun there Dmax to 10,000rpm on a dyno though

Yep. They said that at the world finals in Topeka.

IMO it would fall under the "almost impossible " catagory

Because even gasser big blocks dont turn that high, small blocks yes.

Maybe a spark assisted diesel engine with nitrous and special fuel???
airflow would have to be improves quite a bit to.

Audi and pugs Le mans engines turn 8k in there 10 cylinder diesel's i believe. but thats a redline max.

I think that the d-max with the right build and tuning could live at say 7k redline.
Most i have ever turned (EFI limited) when we started was around 6k, now with the dps 5 switch it only turns 5600-5650??, thats where ive been shifting it at because that where it is making its most power. i think that with the right tables i can turn this engine to 6300-6500 with out issue, but to go higher i feel i need to make more adjustments to the build.

i've learned alot this year.:thumb:

Big block gasser motors will turn that much. The motor in my rail has been spun to 9800 on 3 or so occasions.

Im talking big cubes, like 650 +, Smaller stuff will turn it better cause they have much shorter strokes, and lot less weight.

But not a consecutive thing....Sure they can get close but no competitive race team turns them that high, because there is no power up there, and they fly apart with ease up there....

My bud Jim teachman,(Gotham city Pro Mod) pro mod engine (706) only turns 7600 and run's 4.08-4.15 ET's He gets 75 + passes out of the engine.

Another bud RB smith same motor, different combo run's 4.teens and only turns 5800-6000 RPM, but gets about 150 passes out of his engine.

Bet we never hear how the dmax holds up at higher rpm's than the norm. In all fairness, should say: I must try myself to get accurate results. Aluminum rods or not, the stresses are amazing. Have you disassembled to check your rods lately?

After initial start up and a few heat cycles later, yes i did, and all looked perfect. after running it 20+ passes only thing i have done is change the oil and filter once, nothing else.

Now this winter i do plan to take time to inspect the engine more closely.

As far as longevity, it all boilds down to a few things, Good parts quality, Correctly matched components, and a good tune. If you factor higher RPM into this equation you can get it right.

Once you realize that a diesel is just a fuel and the diesel engine is just a heavy air pump, the rest is common sence IMO.

Banks said in Duramax article 7k was attainable and will be in select racing engines. That was like 2 yrs. back in DP mag. That's just not affordable for alot of regular customers really. It was for racing topic though,

Still way too early for anyone to be an expert on the diesel engine air pump, right tune, right component and high rpms at the moment. Time will tell for sure.

Will you be doing before and after photos as well as dimensional details on the web regarding this disassembly/inspection?

No reason that a engine like mine should cost any more than 55k, and a banks engine should be less than what there asking IMO.

Banks will never turn 7k and keep it together with there current set up. Not knocking banks, and i have a lot of respect for what they have done, but im not your average buyer, i know better, and build my own.
