Built daily drivers??

Whats the over all concern with DD a built motor as far as part failure? Pistons,rods,what?

IMO there is just to many variables to achieve anything accurate. Most build a motor for competition. So you might use it as a DD how much competition is also done?

IMO anything that built and at or to what stage can last depending on how you drive it even daily. It's still the same old quest for information as it was years ago when just tuning was available.

Whats the longevity of tuned truck verses a stock truck? You had people asking that question years ago. Some people drove around all the time on kill others although they had a kill setting hardly used it daily.

You have people that at some time they hurt their truck tore it down put the bells and whistles to it take it to the track make a few passes then pu$$y foot around from that point and rack up some miles. How is that IMO a fair test of longevity?

I basically believe that you'll have to be the judge of the length of 'real time' of longevity. Because how you drive and what you do with the truck will determine how long it will last,not the parts!

thats the way to do it right there have ur dd that u can rely on for work and play be able to stomp anybody on the street then when the weekend rolls around hook up ur trailor and head to the track thats the drection i would like to head if i can ever get my life straighten out

My reasoning is that if I have a truck I race I am constantly going to be trying to go faster, which is going to push it harder and harder until I find the next weak link. Doing this on my daily driver truck doesn't work out so well for me because when it breaks I have nothing to drive (except my motorcycle) and I stay too busy on other people's trucks to work on my own and get it back up and running quickly. When I bought the race truck I originally planned to put the stock motor from it into my DD, but by the time I worked out what I wanted for the race truck I didn't have much from my old setup that was going to be used (rods, main studs, keyed crank, cam, etc), and I know myself enough to know that I will push my DD until it breaks if it has a stock motor. So rather than sell my old parts at a loss I am putting them back in the DD with better pistons so that I have a solid build, then downsizing to a BatMo 366 since it tows awesome, using a single modded CP3, and only 60% over injectors - that will limit me to under 850 rwhp on a build that could handle much more and should keep my DD reliable while still being fun and able to handle most people on the street. For events and drag racing I'll hook up the trailer, load up the race truck and head out for the real fun. If/when I blow up the race truck or need to refresh the engine or trans I will still have something to get around in.

Looks like you already have the trucks lined up, now to just start building that RCLB into a race truck.

yeah i would love to build it but life just sucks right now so i just got to drive it stock but on a lighter note the g/f finally got a job so hopefully it will get better when she gets used to her job

Daily drive mine, (when we aren't fixing the transmission) back and forth to Boise a number of times, (700+ miles round trip). Drove it to Topeka and back (3400+ RT) and raced it in the 11.90 class. Lost in the finals when I broke out. It's about as built as you can make one. Level one is around 650hp level 5 is 900+. Drives great, has a 4094 over a 5533 with a 94mm wheel. Does have the custom forged pistons. Going to sell it if anyone is interested. Has about 7K on the built engine.

i was driving mine for a bit, but tuning was driving me nuts so it became a weekend toy, just got that straightened out and i wil be driving it more again. when my motor was built the debate about the forged pistons was more about the lack of oil cooling ports in the bottom of the piston, and extended use under load. was told normal driving would be fine just wouldnt tow 10k+ for more than an hour or 2

Built mine, Daily drove it, raced it, sled pulled, and pulled a goosneck trailer on a regular basis. 8k later, I had 8 melted pistons and broke the crank :baby: The Crank I believe was just sh!t luck and the melted pistons were (IMO) from overheating the engine while doing back to back to back sled pulls with no elapsed time in between.. In other words I believe at least 1/2 the problem's were operator error

takes a real man to admit it! too many times i've read about "bad" engine builders when there is a deeper truth to it
