Can someone explain why a forged piston is hard on rings? Is it the thermal characteristics?

The forged pistons do not have Steel inserts "ring lands" like the stock pistons do. So the rings/ring lands get beat out of the forged pistons over time.

Forged pistons do not have a hardened ring land , there for you have to use softer rings and they were faster. There are a few trucks that have made it to 50k miles on the same set of rings , not sure what life one could expect but I would guess min would be 20k miles , since most trucks with cast pistons break before that , its any ones guess what the best route is .
