I know I'm late to the discussion here, but the way I understand the operation, the cruise control indicator light on the switch should turn on when the button is pressed no matter what inhibit cause is present. The switch and indicator are both dumb. I'll post the diagram from Mitchell/ProDemand which is a little more clear than the one from AllData. I would be looking at a possible clock spring problem.
Actually Sir, it's from Identifix... LOL

But since you are here, What do you use for a scan tool? do you have any thoughts or recommendations in that department?

I think your right. From my recollection, the dic will show the cruise control icon. But it won't set cruise if there is a problem

I don't think the light on the dash illuminates until the cruise is set, but I believe the orange LED in the switch illuminates whenever the button is depressed.

Oh, my bad! lol

I used a couple of different snap on scan tools. They have their plusses and minuses, but they have generally worked well for me.

Old shop I worked for switched from Alldata to identifix. Owner gave me his login in to let me use his account. ;)

All I can remember is if the button on the steering turns on or not.. if engage the speed o icon goes green, I can't remember if a white speed-o icon is lit if CC is on but not engaged

The light on the steering wheel does not come on in my stuff

Ok, found this

Looks like the power for the steering wheel lights comes from the BCM, to a fuse in the left side fuse panel. Then the clockspring, splits into two wires for each side to power the LEDs in the buttons. Circuit on the right side of the diagram

And another one for your brake switch ground issue. This one sure looks like its showing the ground running through the clockspring

I have the K34 CRUISE CONTROL, AUTOMATIC, ELECTRONIC..
🤷🏻‍♂️
Did disconnect the batteries see what happens tomorrow after work.. for giggles. Maybe it'll clear those C codes?

Shocks, tie rods, alignment, and newer tires will be done before getting into the clock spring

Interesting. Any chance this model didn't come with steering wheel controls and someone started adding them before you purchased it? If no, them I'm stumped
Be careful using 07 and 08 schematics. They seem to be bastard Childs and in some cases don't even match the vehicle. Had that issue on my dads 07 when the power window switch went out.

Yeah, that's bit me a few times. Those I posted above are definitely LMM as the manual calls out the engine. I have more then one 2007 electrical manual and I have to be careful with them. Same for the actual LLY and the bastard LBZ masked as an LLY

Had a lot of issues when I put a 06 van LLY/LBZ in a C3500HD years ago lol
