Just bought a browning 300 ultra mag and I was wondering if getting the barrell vented is a good idea? I never owned anything that kicked enough for me to look into venting but this thing kicks like a mule. Other then the recoil its seems like a pretty nice gun, can't wait to tag something 600+ yards out with it:D

Well I am on the subject of guns, I also picked up an AR-15 recently that needs a scope, any suggestions on a solid but reasonably priced scope? I dont plan on hunting with it but it would be nice to actually hit a target or something;):)

A muzzle break will prolly help your accuracy. I have a browning x bolt in the .300 short mag, but I load my own rounds...220 grain. It kicks like a mule also.

dont wast money on venting. Like wolf said a brake would be the way to go. check out midwayusa.com they sell all kinds of thread on breaks.

A muzzle brake done right will tame it some, but get ready for it being louder. lol Ear protection is a must especially on a cloudy day. Might want to check into an aftermarket recoil pad. The heavier the gun the less felt recoil so a bull barrel would help some too. There is a new stock out also that has recoil suppression zones built into it. I have a Remington Sendero 300 Ultra Mag and like it a lot but for a 30 cal I have a Weatherby 30-378 that doesn't kick as much as some 30-06's and out performs the 300 Ultra ballistically by a little.

I just spent about an hr researching muzzle breaks, venting, adding weight, and the sim's limb saver.. I think I am going to try the SIM's first, its under $40 bucks and has a ton of good reviews. After reading a little more on the breaks I am nervous its going to make the 300 ultra mag to loud for the field. I had no idea a muzzle break increased the noise levels to that extent, but after shooting the AR-15 and having my ears ringing for the next several hr's it makes sense:banging::D Thanks for the replies!!

On Edit...3 more posts pertaining to what I posted above, I need to learn to type faster, lol.. Anyone know of a good place to order a Limb Saver??

Look up some ear plugs called Sonic Defenders. They're made by a company called Surefire. They allow you to hear normally, but block out anything above 85db. I shoot M16s and many much louder weapons we have on a daily basis. I wouldn't go to the range/field without them. The best part is they're less than $15.
As for a scope, if you're looking for a target scope, get a holographic sight with no magnification like an EOtech. The AimPoint brand is pretty good too, and they have a removeable magnifier.
Happy shooting!
Oh and if you don't know the ballistics of that AR yet, zero the sights at 36M. It's the same ballistics as 300m.

Thanks for the info:thumb: On a side note I always (Well almost Always:oops:) use some sort of ear protection, I just did not expect that little gun to make so much noise....:baby:

Haha, well I know the importance of hearing pretection now. I'll be 24 next month and I'm about 3 points shy of 60% hearing loss. Granted most of that wasn't my fault, but still. Those Surefire plugs are the best I've used. Was the AR you bought a gas piston model (like an AK), or a direct impingement system?

I wouldn't get a muzzle break but that's just me. If the recoil bugs that much get a slip on limb saver and that money you would save could go to expensive ammo.

IDK, but heres a pic;) Most of my guns are for hunting so I never had the need for an assault type rifle, but the price was right and it looked cool IMHO:D
Just need a couple mods now;)

I spent the entire day shooting yesterday at the rifle range. I shot 300- 308's in an AR
100 270's in a bolt and 250 12GA. :D

I like the 308 round but think i will be getting a 30-06 here very shortly

You could just suppress it. That will deal with both of your problems.

Those are some pretty rifles. That AR is a gas impingement system. Just make sure you keep that gas tube (the silver tube under the hand guards) clean. Otherwise it'll cycle too fast and wear down your sear.
If you want a cool mod, there's a hydraulic recoil buffer out there that'll give you a little more control from the recoil (tiny as it is). I'll see if I can find the link for you.
