Truck is an 05. 163k miles. Stock. Filled up with a bad tank of diesel I guess, water or contaminant I can't determine - truck lost power, ran really rough, then died. No WIF warning. WIF sensor was just replaced last year. No restart... Scanner said injectors 4 and 7, so I went ahead and removed all 8 and had them tested at a diesel shop down the road. ALL of them were bad. Truck had superb maintenance by local GM dealer, fuel filter was changed out every 10k with a new AC Delco. Is there anything else that could have caused this, aside from too high a concentration of emulsified water in the fuel? I.e. enough junk that could make it past the stock delco fuel filter to destroy them within 30 minutes of filling up?? All 8 had moderate amounts of carbon buildup on the tips.

where did you have them tested? how did they conclude that they were bad?

Thompson Diesel, OKC, OK. The lady that I talked to on the phone had no clue and there wasn't a man available for me to talk to. She just said that they couldn't even get them to open. Do I need more info?? What should I ask for when I call them about them tomorrow? They are going to sell me a new set of 8 for 350 apiece that come with a one year warranty, but I am thinking about buying used from a junkyard...

how many fking times are you going to post this all over the internet????

first of all, get your truck out of that idiot shop. They dont know what they are doing, and even if the injectors were all bad (which I doubt...the odds of all 8 suddenly just dieing is very low), 350/injector is a ripoff.

the "scanner said 4 and 7 are bad" doesnt mean anything either. No scan tool will tell you if "the injector is good" or "the injector just went bad". There is no "bad injector" code. There is a code for BAD WIRING TO AN INJECTOR. Bad injectors dont just make the truck shut off and not restart like that.

There was a bulletin I think about something in the cp3 possibly failing and letting metal peices into the rails/injetcors. Might be what happened if all 8 just died. But like Ben said, what do you mean the scanner said 4 and 7 were bad?

I am insane, I have tons of free time so i just post all over the internet for fun. No, I am just trying to fix this truck man!!! It is broke, I can't figure it out.
It aint in a shop, I took the injectors to the shop. The truck is in my shop, I took the injectors out, took them to Thompson Diesel.

About the codes, I have no idea, that is what United GM in Seminole, OK told me. They said the code reader said 4 and 7 were bad, but it should have started even with 2 bad injectors. They couldn't get it to start though and had given up, said they had no idea how to work on the duramax. They couldn't tell me any more information... So what your saying is I should buy a code reader and get the codes first??

"couldnt get them to open"?? What, were they trying to pop test them or something??

I have no clue, all I know is the truck stopped running, the gm dealer that looked at if after I couldn't figure it out told me the injectors were probably bad. Because money is tight, I decided to get the injectors tested rather than pay 4 thousand for new ones and hope that fixes it. Now Thompson is telling me that the injectors are just bad. How or why, they wont say.

Uh oh, I hope that didn't happen... That thing is buried in the engine too, sure hope I don't have to replace it!

you said on another forum that you ALREADY REPLACED THAT.

take the truck to someone that knows what they are doing. All you are accomplishing now is wasted time and making you hate duramax's more and more/thinking theyre all junk

And why can't I fix it myself? Does it take a rocket scientist or something? Were you born knowing how to mess with these trucks or did you learn? Wasting time? I just want to know what to do next, I can do it myself, I promise, I have been turning wrenches on gas engines for 40 years, I just would like some help with these duramax engines!!!!!!!! You are a vendor? What do you sell?- so I can make sure I NEVER buy from you.

i would find a vendor on here that can test injectors and send them to him/her.

Thank you all very much for the informative responses. I will get a second opinion.

Please find a different shop to test the injectors man, even if you have to ship them somewhere. Have you or have you not replaced the CP3 ??
