LLY: 85 over cp3. Sounds like a ford

Well I finally got the truck together after taking it apart to swap my cp3.

The cp3 I had previously was worn out and peaked at 10k psi of rail pressure. It would fall as low as 5k psi. The truck was (still is) tuned with that cp3, stock turbo and 60 over sticks.
I wasn't able to tune it for the new turbo due to rail pressure issues. Well now all those issues are fixed. (bigger lift pump, 85 over cp3)

I just drive the truck for about 45min back home. The truck sounds like a 7.3l power stroke now. It makes loud clatter under throttle up untill 1300-1500 rpm. At a dead stop, it's quieter but still louder than before the new pump.

Is this noise due to having more rail pressure than commanded? I'm assuming that I just need to tune it. But untill then, is it safe to drive around town?
I talked to Trent on this issue. I just want to get other peoples opinions as well. Have Any of you guys who have done cp3 swaps have had this situation before?

Ps... CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT TUNED!!! She should run like a rapped ape. Finally should be in the 11's!!! :D

I would start by logging in that area of concern......If rail press is considerbly higher than commanded then i would simply turn down the pressure in baby steps and see how it sounds.

there are also a few table you can adjust that compensate for des VS commanded rail press that help the ECM fix it for you.

Also you may want to look at pilot inj

Is this a stock tune? if not flash that in and see what it does. If it is stock then id say your just going to have to work it out via tuning

i just seen you have 60 overs:eek: it sounds like o me you just have fuel knock
so you might want to leave pressure alone and reduce PW

Ok. Well I don't have a v2 with me. And the truck does not have a stock tune. It's moonshine tuned. I will get ahold of guy and see if him and I can figure something out in regards to the v2.
Maybe someone here in Houston has one that will let me run some logs.

Do you think it will hurt anything running it the way it is now?

Depends if your windows are tinted or not? If not i would suggest a brown paper bag.... so people dont notice you:D

As far as the truck, i doubt it

could be needs altering of b1010 table due to the regulator as previously posted.....you will want to get it fixed but i wouldnt be scared to drive it

The FPRV is shimmed. No race valve.

That maybe where your fuel knock is coming from. Mine did the same thing when I first put my big CP3 in and I didn't have my tuner adjust for the modified FPR.

Yea that's what I originally thought. I will run some logs and get it dialed in.
Should be a screamer after its finally tuned. I haven't even had the truck tuned for the s366! Still have stock turbo 60% injector tuning lol should be a nice surprise when it gets dialed in.

B1010 table is where most of your changes are going to need to be made. It took a lot of trial and error to get mine to idle and respond "normal" (I have a 150% cp3) then I botched it up by using too small of a return line on my new lift pump and regulator....but B1010 is where you need to increase mA in idle region till it is quieter (and rail psi gets around 6k psi ish)

I guess, But it wouldnt get quieter at idle JMHO and the fact that he has a modded cp3 starting would be very very difficult and considering he never mentioned that ....I would lean towards tuning

However its not going to hurt to check the plug:)

It won't hurt to check, but I totally missed where it stopped at idle. That's when it would be most noticable too, so throw my idea in the trash
