Keep in mind that the common rail engine also uses fuel to cool and lubricate teh injectors, so it's not just how much fuel the engine needs to run, but you have to include the fuel being bypassed for cooling. Modifying teh fuel pick-up was not hard at all to do. Then again I know that Gordon's 99 BURB with a LB7 is still using teh stock 6.5 lift pump and stock pick-up arrangement. He says it seems to run alright, but I've never ridden in it. He did say his didn't seem to run like mine as he can't roast his tires like I can.
