The insurance thing isn't even worth mentioning as there will be dragsters running way faster than us and for a full 1/4 mile.

Trent,

Super Street at TS is nothing like the Super Street class with NHRDA. Min weight is 3500 and max weight is 4500. We wont quite make that at 6000.

wow , so its either PS or 12.0 index  kinda a gap there .

That might require a little too much of the old sawzaw.

Sorry but I was skimming and trying to post quickly. After fully reading the CompD thread and this one I realize I was talking about a whole different group of trucks and that a cage is necessary either way. Since I won't be running in this class I want to see 1/4. I still think that there isn't as much of a conspiracy theory as many of you let on.

Who's side? You guys are the ones making this a Dodge side vs Chevy side thing. There are plenty of DMax's running nitrous and a constantly growing handful that can run 6s in the 1/8 on fuel. I just think it's funny that people try to say rules are made to make things better for nitrous trucks and Dodges - so put nitrous on your truck. That's like saying they didn't prep the track to help the guys with slicks beat the guys without - go buy slicks. So I'm not on the supposed "Dodge" side of this, I'm on the side that says there are alot of fast Duramax's without cages that won't be able to compete in the 1/4; luckily they also sled pull and can do that at TS. And yes I have seen Pro Stock, Funny Cars and Top Fuel all run 1/8 and 1000' at 1/4 tracks.

The 1/8 ET requirement for a cage is 7.49 and faster LOL your implying that people that run a 7.50 in the 1/8 are pro street trucks? Shit I run 7.80's and with the new CP3 im sure i'll be MUCH closer to 7.49 LOL... you are seriously confused.

Im a nobody in the racing world, but IMO 1/8 mile racing is a waste. Too short.

If the Dodge guys want shorter races, why not just install a couple stoplights at typical intervals and race that way?
Would prove about as much.

Seems the southern boys don't know how to build a truck to make 2 passes in the 1'4 without breaking. Bailing wire is cheaper than nox. Seems the Cummings can't run without either of them.

Not knowing what the rules will be before you arrive, is nonsense, BUT there are some legitimate reasons for running 1/8 mile over 1/4, at least from the track and sanctioning body's points of view.

In the case of Famoso in Bakersfield, their insurance requires them to put on extra emergency personnel and pay a higher daily premium if cars faster than a certain MPH will be running. This is based on 1/4 mile though, so they duck that rule by only allowing the faster cars to run 1/8 if they want to participate. This crap usually rears it's ugly head at private-rental test days and it's happened to me twice with my ProMod.

Second, in the tire-limited classes especially, the vast percentage of injury wrecks are occuring in the last 1/8 mile of racing. This is because of the speeds these cars are achieving and the amount of HP they are putting (or attempting to put) through a Drag Radial or 10.5 tire. Because of this, several sanctioning bodies have adjusted the rules over the last couple years to limit the Drag Radial classes to 1/8 mile, even while other classes at the same event compete in the full 1/4 mile.

I know this isn't the same as the issues faced at Bowling Green, but I just wanted to share my experiences with some of you that are anti-1/8 mile. It's not all BS and, love it or hate it, it's looking to be the wave of the future as cars get faster and society gets even more litigious.

I think you make some valid points and I for one thank you for your post. The Prostock event at TS is not drag radials. You can run full slicks if you want. Every other class, (and there are two faster than Prostock) and two others slower are running 1/4 mile. It is strictly a push from those guys who have pushed their trucks too far and can't survive multiple passes at 1/4 mile. Pure and Simple.

At least there is a plus side ken , if pro street ends up only 1/8 ... you'll still get to run 1/4 in super street . that is if your still entering both classes ? But i am shure the payout for PS is higher .

Maybe you guys are starting to make the competition a little nervous

There is no Superstreet as we know it in NHRDA. Superstreet at TS is for the tube chassis. Banks will be a superstreet truck at TS

If I wasn't so jacked to watch the sled pulling at TS and they sprung this 1/8 mile nonsense....it would definitely be a deal breaker. I don't want to drive across the country to watch a bunch of trucks run 1/8 mile, I want to see high speed, full, 1/4 mile races. I completely agree with everyone who said "If you can't hold it together for 1/4 mile maybe it should be de-tuned". O well, as long as there is beer and sledpulling (hopefully not 150 foot track  ) I imagine it will still be a good time. I just feel sorry for the guys that want to run 1/4, it's not fair, neither is life but that's why racing has rules, so everyone knows what's happening before the event.....and I'm not talking the Friday night before the event in a closed door meeting. Good luck to max'd out racing, hopefully you guys do well.
