nice work, perfect time to do the egr haha, looks like you are taking care of all the problems, issues ect... all at once, peace of mind after the work is done will be well worth all the work your putting in it now, that how i would look at it.

not to mention is nt all that stuff soo much easier to install when the top half of the motor is ripped apart :woott:

Thanks! Started it up a few minutes ago! Still have some work left to do but at least it runs :) Need to figure out how to support the intake piece now that the EGR isnt there....also need to figure out how to connect the air box to the new LBZ mouthpiece. Other than that, just need to fill up fluids and connect gauges.

Overlap of the stock intake tube and the new LBZ mouthpiece. Need to figure this part out.

With the EGR not installed, the intake bridge or whatever this thing is called isn't supported anymore. You can see my blockoff plate on the bottom, but I need to find a way to tie that into the two large bolts below it.

Here's an underside view of the same thing.

Got intake support brackets made today, kind of managed to get a 3" plumbing connector to work to adapt the LLY intake tube to the LBZ mouthpiece. I think I'm going to start watching CL for a used LBZ air intake as a long-term solution.

Truck has a fuel leak at the #8 injector return line, looks like I have a broken return fitting. Ordered a replacement from All Season, should be here Wed or Thurs, then I can drive the truck.

Also got gauges installed today, everything works except the boost gauge. I think maybe I overtightened the fittings on the hose/tube, will have to investigate that one further.

Here's the intake bridge support brackets I made...started with some 1/8" x 2" flat stock and bent it in my vise. Worked out pretty good, it's real solid. I can throw all my weight into it and it doesn't move. My total cost into the EGR delete is about $15 for the 1/8" flat stock and a section of heater hose, since I already had the 1/4" plate laying around to make the blockoff plates. Not the greatest pic but I can't get my phone down in there any other way to take a pic.

Some pics of the gauges. I sprayed the pod with some Duplicolor stuff from Oreilly's, it's close enough for me for now...I don't think it's worth the effort to but the actual SEM or Colorbond stuff for a true factory match.

Also, I had a weird issue to track down this morning. Yesterday, truck ran fine for the 30 seconds or so I let it run. This morning I put the fender liners and wheels back on, then the truck ran with a nasty lope (sounded like a HUGE cam in a gasser) and threw a P0193 - fuel pressure sensor voltage high code. Basically the FP sensor was maxed out. I did continuity testing on all of the wires in the engine harness and ECM harness, then checked the 5v reference and ground wires, everything looked good....wired in the fuel pressure gauge, put everything back together, and it all worked! No more code, no more rough idle...not sure what happened but I'll take it!

did you bump a ground wire or something putting the fender liners back in? there is quite a bit of wiring and connectors on the driver side fender liner area

It's possible I guess...no idea. I did take apart the ECM harness to trace wires, and when I put it back together I added a split section of heater hose to protect the area where it rubs the DS fender liner. Hopefully the problem won't come back, whatever it was!

Went to the track again tonight, broke into the 13's! Changes from last time: EGR delete, LBZ mouthpiece, 3" dowpipe, 3.42 gears, cleaned up intake parts. First run here was a lower power tune than my best last time but a faster time.

Passes:
1. 14.225 @ 94.24 Vid
2. 14.058 @ 95.67 Vid
3. 13.981 @ 96.00 Vid
4. 13.955 @ 96.22 Vid
5. 13.951 @ 96.62, 1.898 60' Vid

Tune from Kory Willis is next on the list.

Also, first fill up after head gaskets and new mods, 20.2 mpg hand calc. That's about a 2 mpg increase, and includes the 5 passes at the track. Not bad!

Headed to the body shop in the morning to have them get started on paint. Taking it down a few pieces at a time so they can squeeze it in between their collision jobs.

Chris, when you installed the engine, did you have any problems with the starter or trans lines touching the pass side intermediate mount? I noticed that the other day on mine.

None...I don't have a lot of clearance but there's enough to where they don't touch. If the truck were here right now I'd get a better pic...should have it back by the end of the week I'd imagine, and since the fenders are off I bet I can get a good one for you.

Haven't gotten the truck back yet, Tom.

Bought some SEM factory interior match paint. The C pillar panels and cross-piece that goes across the back wall were both from the 99, and were graphite color. The SEM paint turned out pretty good. Once I get the truck back I have a couple pieces on the dash that need some touch-up as well.

Piece on the left is painted, right is factory.

Painted pieces next to factory finish kick panel and door sill. Not a perfect match but I think the sill and kick panel may be a little dirty...might try to scrub them up good before I put them back in the truck.
