Cylinder walls are fine except for the pics I took. Head is beat up but should be fine. I agree that a chunk of the piston broke out, and did the rest of the damage we see until it made its way out exhaust valve.

Got a lml in that makes a knocking noise. Balance rate on cyl 7 was 10. Had codes for that and cyl 6 injection timing. Compression test showed 150 psi on 7 and good on all the others. Could see piston top damage with borescope. Tore it down today to find this.

Show of hands, how many have found debris anywhere except fca cavity? In the rails, injectors or tank? Anyone? I don't think I have yet......

The cam isn't going to "give" you more rpm as much as it's going to enable the engine to make better power at higher rpms. It will make it more efficiently move air, which actually could lower your drive pressure at a given rpm.

That hose is extremely tight fitment but its just a barb. You can slice it to remove it. Even if you reuse that line, there's more than enough line to get it to reconnect.

You're probably not going to notice the difference in spool that a ball bearing cartridge would make. However, if budget is no concern or you are the type of guy to not sacrifice anything, go for it. A lot of that type stuff is subjective, meaning if it feels like it makes a difference in your...
Most of the time they do spin one. Hardly ever have to scrap the block though. I can only remember 3, maybe 4 that were bad from the spun bearing. And these 2 take the cake, cracking like that.
If you are buying a core engine, its far safer to purchase one that has a bad piston instead of a...
Last 2 cores we've torn down had the main bore cracked where the broken crank spun the bearing. These pics are 2 different blocks. The cracks and markings are darn near identical.
It's also been a toss up on where the cranks are breaking, front or rear. Mostly lmls coming thru these days...
