shudder in 4wd under torque load

my 4wd shudder is through the floor and not in the steering, which is odd after finding this other problem. As I said earlier, I have a bit of slack in the steering (probably not noticeable unless you are picky) and I found that the splined shaft coming out of the gear box where the pitman arm...

shudder in 4wd under torque load

Well I think I stumbled across the answer. I had someone wiggle the steering wheel slightly (again) while I looked at all of the steering components and sure enough, the shaft coming out of the gear box where the pitman arm connects has lateral movement. Looks like it walks side to side...

    what is killing my mpg??

i have 245's on my truck and EFILive tuning by JoshH and it takes effort at 65mph to get to 22-23 and that is cruising only, I can't avg that for a full tank. I have found that I get less mpg if I stay below 60mph, seems to be much happier at 65 but not over 68mph. Here is where you should be...

    transfer/trans oil

i'm betting its Castrol syncromesh like the NV4500, but ATF and Gear lubes were all used on the NV4500 with no ill effects. I ran my ol' 96 3/4ton 4x4 chevy with mobil 1 gear lube in the trans for many years, syncros hooked up beautifully and never had a failure. I would like to say that the...

Allison 6sp: Towing a big boat

If you are cruising down the interstate with traffic, stay in 6th at 65-70 and don't use cruise control. Learn your truck let it fall back a little going up the hills (not letting it downshift) and then gain it back on the backside of the hill. What tune are you running? a tune with extra...

    First fish out of water

I thought this was already debated? If you take a dmax into the dealership with engine trouble, they go to the TCM to check input torque history to see if the truck has been tuned. You would have to change both to get away with keeping your warranty. Buy a used truck and save the money if you...

shudder in 4wd under torque load

If I understand the Chevy front drive train, the front drive shaft, CV's, and ring/pinion are theoretically not supposed to be rotating unless it is engaged in 4wd - Correct?

shudder in 4wd under torque load

The truck has 245/65r16 street tires on it, so I don't play off road. 4wd is engaged when the roads are slick (during rainy weather) or if I am pulling a heavy load on dirt roads The only front end abuse it has seen is a 4wd launch that I did before learning of the "must do" upgrades on chevy...

shudder in 4wd under torque load

The truck has 41K miles on it. The shudder is through the body/seat of the truck, not so much in the steering. I have crawled under the truck but I didn't notice anything that stood out. I'll have to do further inspection of the diff mounts and u-joints. This has just developed recently, I'd...

shudder in 4wd under torque load

I have a shudder in the drive train that only exist when I'm in 4wd, lock the converter, and roll into the throttle. The more power I push it to the more violent the vibration becomes. No vibration in 2wd, only in 4wd. Any suggestions on where to start looking for a problem? Russ

Pulled by a dodge...I'm PISSED and embarrased!!

Not trying to hijack the thread but I have a question the tie rod ends. A couple of months ago when I was still running 305/55r20's I did a boosted launch and caught a bad wheel hop out of the hole which towed the front tires in. It wasn't dramatic, you could tell if you looked at it head on...

    LB7: wheel speed sensor's

I know that if the speed setting between the ECM and TCM are not pretty close together the ABS brakes will be screwy. Such as when you hit the brakes to stop the pedal will shudder and feel really soft before it actually applies brake pressure to the pads. Can be a wake up call if it happens. ;)

    calling out JoshH

I'm to the northwest at 249 and the beltway. :hello: Josh, I was pretty rough on the truck yesterday and couldn't get the codes to come back on. I'll lay it all out this weekend and see what happens. Everything is looking good so far!! :thumb: The truck shifts better and better everytime I...

    calling out JoshH

I haven't had a chance to open her up yet. It will probably be tomorrow at lunch or this weekend before I have room to test the tune for the same codes. Most of the time the traffic is so bad around here that there are no opportunities to push it on the top end. i owe you and Rob dinner next...
