    Broken Crankshaft Count?

That's the current approach by most aftermarket producers. What I would like to see is someone increase diameter on the mains. Mercedes used that approach to address harmonics and twist on their latest diesels with good success.

    LML Marine swap

Yeah that housing is aluminum, so you can weld a v-band ring to it. There is like 6 bolts on the back side of compressor housing, once removed it slides right off. The housing orientation is not fixed either. So you can rotate the output direction to better fit the other engine layout. Key to...

    LML Marine swap

Charge cooler looks like it fits well down in the side pocket. On your boots, ya might make sure that first 2.5"-3" reducer is a "Vibrant" brand or something rated at 450F+. I tried some cheap ones in that position and they all failed in under 30 minutes running time. Even the ones from...

Those pipes should work great. Plus you got a free workout on the drill press.

    Twins with Twins, Anyone?

I've always wanted to own a RIB. Guessing that is a Marine Diesel VGT500 powering it? While the jet setup removes some issues with drive gearing and long term reliability, it does come at the cost of lower speed and fuel efficiency.

Closing up the bottom end on the first one today. Then it's heading off to the fab shop for up pipes and turbos mounting. For those who like modified stuff, see attached... Medium duty upper pan, switched to rear pick up design, custom baffle plate, modified LML oil pump, and custom 15 quart...

Thanksgiving... I'm hauling these drives to Fl on Tuesday along with a mock up block to get the mounting points all wrapped up. So getting closer. Long blocks are done, just down to tubing turbos and the small plumbing work. Which we've decided that plumbing these for marine...

That's all Weismann. Hinge pins are exactly same as the #6. The ring is basically a 6 turned upside down. Transom bolt pattern is also same as Speedmaster. If you notice what's laying on the stand is a 6" extension box that allows for adjusting drive height. This BAJA was actually rigged with...

    Any billet cranks in DD'ers?

I think GM engineers lurk around these forums more than we know. Just looking at the oiling and cooling upgrades to the LML alone tells me they've been reading posts... So hopefully they tackled these crank issues this go round.

    Any billet cranks in DD'ers?

I toured the Callies facility and saw the first run of these cranks in several stages of production. Really nice workmanship by a company that also manufactures cranks for some leading marine engine builders. Stuff built to spin upwards of 13-2000hp for hours on end. I opted for the internal...

Here is what will put the power to the water. Very rare pieces, designed by Pat Weismann and specifically built to handle big diesel torque. Can fit up to like a 20" prop. Unfortunately the majority of these were sold to the US Gov. But somehow I own all the spare parts now... These two drives...

Yeah went to dinner on Friday, and then ran into him again on Saturday walking the halls. He's a hardcore, did all three days..

Thanks for that info Rob. The examination on returned set I was told of sure sounds like yours. Leaving a couple sets floating around out there somewhere. If I'd built three sets lets say, and only one returned in good shape, but had eaten a block. Yup, gonna require more...

My only comment was; "what do you consider expensive?" I know people who will take a set of modified units tomorrow, even if they cost 4k. I got the feeling it was seriously just a lack of real world data that's holding things up. Tooling is a big deal, and why risk that capital unless your...

I was seriously beginning to wonder if anyone would catch that....:D Yes those were photographed at the Mahle display. Left side is our std cast units [hardened upper ring land], right is a Dmax Monotherm. I stopped by their booth and whipped out a pic of Dave's new forged with the whole side...

Stumbled across this dual EGT gauge with alarms at the show. Might be of interest for anyone who needs to watch both banks. Two probes, one gauge, with programmable alarms. Not listed on the site, but they offer it in their very clean looking signature series gauge face also. Leading my short...

Just got home from Indy, first PRI show in 26 yrs. Only spent 4hrs at the show, but accomplished a good bit. Put faces to a few voices, and picked a few brains. :) Also checked out some strange looking pistons,, and may have found someone to build my tube-N-tube up pipes. Local shop, seemed...

Yeah I considered doing dry sumps. But for long term reliability we opted for the new style LML pumps with baffled deep sump pans. All my friends with race boats and dirt track cars have lost races and trashed bearings due to a simple belt failure. Since this is a pleasure boat, figured better...

Here is some pics of our oil pan mods specifically for this marine build. Since the boat will likely see some big waves, I wanted to make sure it's not sloshing oil all over the rotating parts. We started with LML blocks and their upgraded oiling features, but wanted to use older medium duty...
