    How to stop the Smoke

Well, sounds like something mechanically wrong. Cam timing. Intake/Intercooler leak. Exhaust leak. Something like that. Maybe injectors. An odd ball was a bad fuel pressure sensor on one application. From your description above, I'm thinking cam timing.

What did you do at work today?

I rechecked. A pair of calipers is ~5 square INCHs, and require ~.3125 cu inches max of fluid for full apply. That's ~5.125cc per pair. Double that for your large caliper application per pair and again for two axles. So ~21cc if your brakes don't have too much gap. (1/16" travel) Jumping to...

What did you do at work today?

The flow in a hydraulic brake system through the line is so small (~5cc/brake IRRC for passenger car brakes) that the restrictions from line diameter is very, very, minimal. A good reference for the volume calc is here. It doesn't hurt to keep them equal, but I wouldn't bust a nut trying to...

LMM: LMM with 222,000 tear down rebuild

Thank you for the stress test. You would have done better with a lower CR.

LMM: LMM with 222,000 tear down rebuild

The skirt wear and probably the shorter ring life is because of the higher compression ratio. Adam wanted to go higher and made an informed choice. I had recommended 16.5 : 1 . The ovals do not have the offset pin hole of the OEMs and work the piston skirts harder at higher CR. Even so, I am...

Easiest to just buy the part, but if you have to make your own... Use the old one as a guide and tack the end of the stock to the old auger. Now, heat the stock along the outside edge red hot perpendicular to where the stock contacts the shaft and bend the stock around the shaft. You only...

What did you do at work today?

Doesn't bother me much. I'm more worried about flammable gasses/liquids and nasty chemicals than radiation.

Diamond appears to have done a nice job. No oil cooling gallery. Hard to justify the coin.

    Broken Crankshaft Count?

THE improvement is the enlarged rod journals. That increases the rod/main journal overlap greatly increasing the cross section. The throws are just too thin and do not provide adequate resistance to twist. Everything else is icing on the cake.

What is your fuel efficient DD?

2012 Chevy Volt. Almost never use gas when near home. ~35 MPG when in gas mode. Used to plug in at the hotels when on the road, but there is too much competition now for the plug, so I don't bother. The split over the lifetime of the car so far is almost 50/50 between gas and electric...

Thoughts on CP Carillo's Hybrid Rods/Pistons?

I like the longer rod. I like the weight savings. I'm not fond of the smaller pin diameter for a daily driver or forged for that matter. The latest rev of the Mahle forged with taper cut pins puts you in this same weight ballpark as these, but with the stock rod length and pin diameter.

    2017 Duramax

Details are painfully few and far between. The larger journals will go a long way to address crank failures since the primary factor appears to be the overly thin throw with no where to add material. Increasing the Mains would have accomplished the same thing, but I don't know if there was room...

    2017 Duramax

It is an optical delusion. The cut is in a different place relative to the valve center line. Valve opening is about the same. Slightly higher floor and the entry into valve is more tangent to the cylinder.
