its not easy but you can pull it out with the alternator still in place. First make sure you have the coolant lines unhooked. Then remove all the studs from the front. I got mine out by pulling it forward untill it just about hit the alternator & then pulled the front of the cooler towards the...- Samdogmx

sorry your right, I just looked it up, its needed on cars running 13.99 or faster with slicks or 11.49 or faster with any tires.- Samdogmx

actually the NHRA rule is that any car running slicks regardless of ET needs one & it must be at the front no more than 6" behind the front u-joint ;)- Samdogmx
