EGR Gasket? shouldn't take but 1.0hr if even that... why not do it yourself should be really simple
I've tried and failed 3 times.
I cant get the cooler pulled far enough away from the up pipe to pull the fubared gasket.
Today I had trouble with it hitting a coolant bracket, got that out of the way not good, hit fuel line and removed that and no good. started to remove the alternator, and then relized that it was hanging up on a heat sheild. I have no way of getting to the other bolt that holds the heat sheild in place.
When I first blocked the egr, I guess I seperated the gasket some how and it has leaked for a long time now
It's just a headache and I'd rather not spend anymore time not getting anywhere, and my knees always hurt really bad after workin on it from sitting on the radiator
X2 , all the dealer will do is take the time you were willing to ,pull it all the way apart and charge you by the hour for it
I thought of that today but it started gettin dark out, I'm afraid that will be just more of a pain though
That doesn't tell me how to remove it though Nick. If you will remember I'm tryin you to pull it but I can't
I can't see it taking more than a couple of hours, and that is if you are really taking your time. I don't remember pulling the cooler to be that difficult either though. :dontknow:
Hold on. On the gasket that is in there. Is the whole gasket split or just split from the outside in. When I did mine we didn't pay attention to the gasket somehow got it on the cooler side. I then noticed the vents blowing soot in my face and realized I had a leak. Took it back apart and realized there was 2 parts to the gasket and put the plate between the 2. It hasn't leaked since.
The studs are too long to allow it to just pull out easy. It needs to be pulled about an inch and a half towards the front of the truck to clear the uppipe. When I first did it, I had a real hard time getting any wiggle room to push in the plate, so finally got the plate in alittle and had to tap it in with a hammer. When I did that it hung up on the bottom half of the gasket and tore it. I can feel on the bottom side of the flange that one of the sides of the gasket is folded over so thats where its leaking from.
its not easy but you can pull it out with the alternator still in place. First make sure you have the coolant lines unhooked. Then remove all the studs from the front. I got mine out by pulling it forward untill it just about hit the alternator & then pulled the front of the cooler towards the passenger side of the truck. Good Luck
I tried that, I tried every way I could in 3 hours lol what studs did you remove? There is a heat sheild covering the fuel rail in the back that it hangs up on, I cant rotate the cooler around it either because the I cant get the studs out of the holes
Yeah, kinda.... they're a PITA to get to. IIRC from when I swapped out my LLY up pipe for a LB7 one, you NEED a swivel head ratcheing breaker to get them out and a 12pt 12mm socket. Come to think of it, I might have had to remove the downpipe to get to them. It's been a while. Then once they're all out, getting the pipe out is a pain because of the trans dipstick. If you're just moving it enough to get the gasket swapped, then the dipstick shouldn't be much of a pain.
Im in the middle of taking the DP out now for another try at it. Hopefully the rain will stay away, I'd like to reuse the gaskets to or is that just plain stupid
