    04’ Lb7 smokes a lot at idle

You should be able to reuse the cups. It's possible you could damage them if you're really careless when removing them, but unlikely. If I remember correctly, they're machined from a type of hard stainless steel, and they're pretty tough. Mine had some carbon around the tips (as should be...

    04’ Lb7 smokes a lot at idle

It's a fairly involved job, but there's really not anything that difficult about it. I'm a decent DIY mechanic, and I didn't really have any trouble at all. Took a weekend, and that included plenty of beer drinking time. The was only two "difficult" (more like 'tedious') parts of the job...

    04’ Lb7 smokes a lot at idle

Yup, these guys all already nailed it. Typically my balance rates get better / more even as the truck warms up, but the main fuel rate goes down / gets worse. Which makes sense, as it takes more fuel for cold idle than warm idle. My injectors have some miles on them (~75k now) with minimal...

    EFILive CAD Models

Ah, copy that. Unfortunately don't have a model already, but let me know if you need any help with it. I'm using Solidworks exclusively (minus HSM Works for CAM work). We also have a decent 3D printer that I use quite a bit. Could easily print a few prototypes if you'd like.

    EFILive CAD Models

I have a V2 Flashscan, and basically do mechanical design / 3D CAD work / precision measurement for a living. I could probably model it up without too much issue. Do you already have something in mind for the design of the case / already have a means to model that up?

Should invest in replacing cracked head

Unless you have, or are expecting, multiple catastrophic failures back-to-back-to-back (which is pretty rare regardless, but especially rare in a 15 year old 170k mile GM truck), it's virtually always cheaper to repair than to buy something new. What's $6500, 6-8 months of payments on a 50k...

deleted 2013 LML worth returning to Stock?

Agreed 1000%. Unless you're towing heavy all the time, newer diesels offer no significant upside compared to newer gas motors, and plenty of downside. Some of my family cuts timber for a living. They've got about a half dozen work trucks, all with service bodies and grossing around 12k...

    Shocks for 3/5 drop

I've got 3" Belltech drop shackles on mine and the overload removed. I think the total drop was around 3.5"-4.0". I'm running the KYB Monomax, part number 565038. It's been a while since I took the measurements and did the research, but I believe the stock shock is 16" long fully compressed...

    04’ Lb7 smokes a lot at idle

Sounds exactly like a bad LB7 injector, or exactly as my bad LB7 injector anyway. If you're positive that it smells like diesel, there's only a couple other possibilities. You could have a cylinder low on compression, but then you'd likely have other symptoms (down on power, fuel mileage...

    High engine temps

Out of curiosity, where were you pulling the temperature numbers from? My dash gauge consistently reads 20-25 degrees higher than it actually is. It runs 190-195 under pretty much all conditions (as pulled from the ECM), but the dash gauge shows 210-215.

    Another Broken Crank

Strictly curiosity here, but how exactly?

Best place to buy a delete kit

The problem isn't enforcement on the consumer side (a.k.a. you and your cop buddies out in the sticks). The problem is enforcement on the supply side; the feds have successfully gone after and shut down most all of the hardware suppliers (delete kits) and especially the companies supplying the...

Hazing LB7 - Couple of Injector Questions

Quick update. Short version: 4k miles on replacing just a single injector and all is well so far. Longer version: I ran injector cleaner through them first. Results were super promising, as the smoke disappeared and balance rates came to almost perfect during the cleaning procedure...

    Injector cleaning

Are you sure about that? Can you share a link? I'm pretty sure that the "X66P Upper Engine and Fuel Injector Cleaner", which is what's been prescribed for Duramax injectors since at least 2010, is no longer sold by GM. There is a low-VOC replacement for that (of which I don't have a part...

10 seconds, stock rods, full weight, crew cab, street truck

Diesel Truck Wars is coming up soon. April 3rd, I think. Landon is usually there.

Bolting TQ conv to BD flexplate

As for the Loctite: just because they came out without heat, doesn't mean that red wasn't used. I've used red of all varieties on hundreds of applications, and have never had to use heat to remove unless they were small (< 10-32 or M5), especially if you can get some good leverage on it. Now...

Lighter weight wheel and tire combo???

I don't have exact weights, but there was a DRASTIC difference between the stock Pyos with 245/75R16 Michelin street tires, and either of the current sets I run (H2 wheels with 275/70R17 General ATx, and 20x9 Fuel Hostages with 305/50R20 Yokohama Parada Spec-X). I think it'd be easy to throw a...

LLY Rebuild - Break in Procedure

In every motor I've ever built, I'll run it for just a brief time at first to check for leaks or any problems (usually less than a few minutes). The "no coolant" option discussed above is not one I've ever done, but doesn't sounds like a bad idea in case there are any oil leaks. After that, go...

    LB7 - Ultra Reliable 600 RWHP Build

Fun as hell, wasn't it? Back in the heyday, my car (2-valve 4.6 Mustang) had a little Eaton blower at about 8 pounds of boost, exhaust, OEM Cobra injectors, OEM Focus drop-in fuel pump, and an OEM Lightning MAF. Everything else on the car was bone stock. It ran 12.0s-12.2s in most weather...

    LB7 - Ultra Reliable 600 RWHP Build

I really don't have any intentions of >600 rwhp / faster than 7.70-7.90. 😇 But, I DO value a "can't-break-it" peace of mind. I learned my lesson with my last ride: had a mod-motor Mustang (hence "sneaky98gt") that I owned for over 10 years. Slowly took it from a mid-15 second stock turd to...
