More useful info "Straight Outta Compton"

Thanks for the technical post Chris, you really helped the OP on this one

Oh, almost forgot the tech content. ;) As whitetailadict said 1350 is pry hot enough however if you are at 1480 for just a few seconds you most likely will not do much if any harm. I could be wrong.

1350* on the hot side (pre-turbo)...1150* cold side (post turbo)

GM says the Duramax is designed to run for extended periods at 1300 or 1350* (one of the two). And I think up around 1450 or something for short bursts. Something like that. But people run them way way hotter and have been holding, others have been doing the same and melt pistons or blow a hole through them.

That temp for short times would be fine. Do not attempt to run for sustained times or you will doing a little engine repair. I see 1800's but will only do it for 1/4 mile type runs.

Sorry George, thanks for the reality check:thumb:

Exactly...Banks has the Six-Gun set to not go higher than 1350*, I would imagine it's for this reason...Several of us have run way higher than 1600* during the 1/4 mile or testing and have been ok...Keep in mind our trucks are all a little different, your results may vary...

Was that better "tech-boy" Josh?:D

I'm not happy to say, but I've seen over 1800 on the stock turbo, but during a pull, not sustained, I believe that a spike is ok, sustained high egt's is what kills stuff. My 2cents

Those egts are normal for decent tune full tilt down the freeway . Most are seeing even higher egts than that . I dont think your going to hurt anything doing that .

You wouldnt want to see my egt gauge . It would make your butt pucker . :D

You are the guy they invented the 2000° pyro for.

Garrett says 1350 sustained, 1450 for up to 5 minutes. Nice having water cooled turbos.

I have an ATS hot+2, ported FPR, EGR blocker, LBZ mouthpiece, lift pump, stock exhaust minus cat and muffler. LLY engine. On level four I am getting 30lbs boost, and around 95-100 the egts are around 1400 if I hold longer they will go to 1600 and I stop accelerating. What can I do tuning or minor mod wise to get them lower?

BD manifold may help.

My EGT gauge flashes at 1300. When towing I keep it under 1350. The rest of the time...for short bursts....I've seen over 1800.
