Here my latest project thats been a pain in the ass since Sept. Got it running last week after trying to track down a no spark and intermittent injector pulse problem that turned out to be bad PCM. I redid the stock harness myself and let me tell you how hard it is to find an 01 PCM pinout! Its an 01 8.1L with TH-400 and NP203. Got a TH-485 and NP205 sitting ingarage that needs rebuilt but never got around to it this year. This is in a 1985 K-20 that I use for plowing. Clean truck as well. Just has surface rust now but was no rust at all when I bought it 4 years ago. Next years plan is to redo entire rest of truck the way I want for total rust proofing including galvanizing the frame.

Just thought Id share a few pics. Still have lots to do with cleaning everything up but right now Im pushed for time with snow coming someday. Thankfully its been a crappy winter for snow with none so far so hopefully that continues at least till after New Year.

Rexburg Id.
How different is the 8.1 from the LS platform? Iirc it's very similar.
There is a guy here at work that thinks it's the latest and greatest and I know LS standalones are easy to do so maybe we will throw one in something and see what it will do

It shares some things but block wise its complete different. Actually shares some aspects of the genVI BBC 454. PCM is same and coil packs can be but other than that its all different. Complete PITA if your not familiar with either gens.

If his is an 03+ its will be much easier. If its 04+ even better. Lots of things you need to know about them before you drop em in. 01-03 CPS sensor is not made anymore. Have to change timing gear, crank sprocket, timing cover, and sensor to 04+ if you want to change the sensor only. Upgraded CPS as well. Tell him to change those two things while its out or he will regret it. Cant change CPS while in most trucks.

Is it true the 454 headers will bolt on?

Ah I see. Yea headers Im running are from 78 K20 and bolt right up minus metric bolts. Valve covers are different then previous. Firing order is different as well. Guzzles gas just the same though. Seriously only get 7 mpg on my 2001 HD. Seen as low as 5 towing in summer with a/c on. Seen an all time high of 16 once going 55 on freeway downhill in NC following dad. NEVER seen it again. Highway is usually 12 mpg on long trips but I also roll out at 80-85 but only taching 2200 so....
