Hahaha all I can say Ben is I'm glad I don't have that issue cause that damn thing is bitch and such a mess

Yeah I was pretty depressed when I started it up and I saw it dripping out. I was like f&@$ I might aswell pull the engine to fix this haha, nerve racking to say the least

I know it. The two times I pulled it I was cussing up a storm. I'd rather change injectors over that

I remember when I pulled mine and then asked for your help and then still had to pull it again. One time for each gasket on the elbow!

And you are right I'd rather do injectors instead. At least you are in a more comfortable position and without two fluids running all down your arms :thumb:

A quality rtv like the Acdelco grey, won't deteriorate a butyl rubber o-ring. If you want to do some research on industrial sealants and their uses, check out a company called Chesterton. I use it on covers for our turbines and I used to say the same thing: the o-ring should be enough...but it doesn't always work that way because of local vibration, pressures, or temperatures.

Old thread but I'll add info. I just had to fix a leaking oil cooler coolant elbow on a built engine I put in. Used a new AC Delco oil cooler(does not come with a new elbow) and all new seals but neglected to pay attention to the sealing surface of the elbow. It had old gasket build up and corrosion on it. It caused a decent coolant leak that dripped from the lower corner of the cooler, landing on the front differential pinion yoke. See before & after pics20190427_145154.jpg

What did you use to reseal it, I ended up throwing out the factory seals and using Toyota FIPG (rtv sealant) and it's been good since I started this thread lol

I reused the mahle seal that was in the gasket set SoCal included(it was new) and grey rtv on both sides. Pretty sure it would of been fine without the rtv after cleaning the surface, but wasn't taking any chance
