I came across a complete 2010 Duramax out of a wrecked C5500 bus with 119k miles worth the money and wondered what the difference is between it and the LMM that's in the pickup trucks and what would I have to change to put it in an LMM pickup?

They are very different if it's the same as lly.. Manifolds, up pipes, Intake..

But other than bolt on stuff they should be basically the same

Turbo should be the same. Upper and lower oil pan rear engine adapter are definitely different. I bought an lly from a 5500 the block and internals, heads, and valve covers were all the same.

May want contact Kennedy diesel (DieselPlace), the medium duty truck engines lagged in years, the 2010 truck might have 2008-2009 year engine and in some cases older compared to the light duty trucks having a current model year engine in the truck.

How do you tell what year it would be? The upper pan is different too? I might be interested in the parts to change it over too if anyone has them laying around.

Completely different..

I'm about to test that theory..

Off the top front and rear covers are different, oil pan is usually deep.. From my searching 2wd came with tailshaft mount parking brake.

Long block wise it's the same..
Exhaust, piping, oil pan, y bridge, turbo intake, mid plate are different

Pretty sure I remember Johnny saying the blocks are different due to the engine mounts they use. Some kind of ear is casted into the block

Lb7/LLY block pickup blocks don't have the front mounting tab the Kodiak blocks do. LBZ pickup and newer do have said tabs

Johnny and I built the adapter for his non MD engine back in 08

The lb7/LLY block in my truck doesn't have them either

Right, but he has a 2010, so it's got the tabs, which even the 2006 up trucks have regardless if it's a 2500 or 5500, so he's good to go on that part, but what about everything else that would matter putting it in a pick up truck

So it looks like the long block would basically bolt in if a pickup oil pan and oil pickup tube was used. How about the rear adapter plate? The allison with it is a 2WD unit. I've taken a TH400 and changed tailshafts & housing to make it fit a 4x4 so I was wandering if the same would work on these transmissions or not.

Upper pan, oil pickup, rear adapter, part of the fuel system hard lines, top engine harness, filter housing location, coolant Y, are all different. The 5500 has electrical connections on the pass side, and fuel filter on the driver side. It's basically side swapped from the truck motor. Iirc one of the front accessory brackets was not normal either, been a while.
