LBZ / six speed all installed and running.

I had no VATS issues, because Idaho Rob did my tuning. I had him disable the VATS, eliminate the EGR, flip the fuel gauge polarity and set it up with DSP 5. He did all that for the same price as a regular DSP 5 tune. Good people.

I used the LB7 lower rad hose, it was quite a challenge to get it on the LBZ water pump, but I did get it done.

Charge hoses are different story, I used a mis mash of hoses from the LBZ and LB7, of anything on this swap I'm not 100% happy with, it would be that, I may revisit them after some research.

Getting the plastic cover back over the underhood fuse block was fun.

The IP from the donor truck has no DIC interaction with my steering wheel controls. Not surprising as it was a work truck without that option.

Thanks for all the help and input.

Welcome to the transplant club. Give you credit :thumb: for doing this on your own.

Thanks. It was a bit of an untaking.

Thanks.

I've put a few hundred miles on it now. It runs great, seems to have lots of power. Loving that six speed.

It has thrown a few codes;
P2563 has come up twice.
P0128 has come up twice.
U1301 has shown up once.

If the P2563 keeps coming back, I may need to remove the turbo and clean it.

The P0128 I'm hoping there is still an air bubble in the cooling system. If that one persists, I'll replace the T stats.

U1301 only showed up once. It could be related to the the SERVICE 4WD, not sure.

I'm getting a SERVICE 4WD message, but that was popping up before the swap.

I had run the donor truck quite a bit trying to get any DICs out of the way during the swap, the only codes the donor threw were glow plug codes.

I'll need to find a VIN from a LBZ that had steering controls, then have the IP (cluster) reflashed (tech II) with that VIN. I believe that would solve my steering wheel controls to DIC comm issue.

Overall happy with it so far.

I have heard pre 03 is a bit more involved?

I know a few members here have done it, but I'm not sure I would tackle that one?

Solved the IP issue with a CL aftermarket one. $140.00 for a unit that had never been plugged into a truck.

have a new truck now LOL.

After a few weeks of driving, I'm getting a recurring P2563 code. I guess I should have taken the turbo apart and cleaned it, while the engine was out. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.

I found what was advertised as a nearly new LBZ turbo on CL, for $225.00. Once I got it home and googled the Garrett P/N, turns out it's actually an LMM unit.

Does anyone know, if the LMM unit will work on the LBZ?

So the LBZ is purring along nicely. I recently developed a pretty substantial power steering leak.

Naturally I first assumed it was the lines or pump on the LBZ, as the truck never leaked with the LB7 in it. Or possibly I left one of the lines loose.

I crawled all over it last night, and it really looks like its the steering box itself. None of the lines, or the pump are wet. The steering box is dripping wet.

So my question is, is it worth it to order a wait for a Redhead box; https://www.redheadsteeringgears.com/product/1999-2007-chevy-25003500-4x4-hd/ , or just go to the dealer. The price difference will most likely be under $50 ( I get wholesale pricing through my dealer).

Is the Redhead that much better that the OEM part?

No more power steering leaks. Truck is much nicer to drive, steering is tight and responsive.

Ashamed to admit, I hadn't realized how bad it had gotten.

New inter cooler tube ordered.

The LBZ donor was wrecked in the front, that boot must have been damaged then and I didn't realize it.

Anymore issues since you've completed the swap?

No, not related to the swap. I am extremely happy with the LBZ / six speed.

The issues are just normal wear and tear, the truck itself has 340,000 miles on it.

Almost 8k miles on the swap, it has developed a strange behavior that I am struggling with.

When slowing down and coming to a stop, the truck seems to jump, after it stops.

It's almost like there is tension built up in the driveline that gets released right after coming to a stop.

Sometimes it's a minimal "bump" feeling, other times it's a pretty substantial jump.

Anyone ever experience anything like this?
