Looks like bad u-joint sheared off tab that holds cap in place on yoke. Would be difficult to weld on new one. Guess it's time to go yoke shopping. I have a 200mi trip tomorrow. Only vehicle. Caps are torqued down well. Hope she'll hold. Any recommendations?

ok that makes more sense lol. i know that is how you adjust your preload, but did you re-measure that when you did it or just get it tight again?

i wouldnt fret too much about it. unless the cap is spinning even with the clamp holding it down, it will be hard for it come out of there

When I broke mine I upraged to 1480 joints. Wasn't as exensive as I thought it was going to be. 250 for new yokes for the tranfer case and rear side and about 300 to have the shaft upgraded to 1480 end caps

this is kind of what i would like to know. i have a 2 piece steel driveshaft. i want to go to a one piece to get rid of that carrier bearing that doesnt last. i also wanted to go to the bigger u joints, but i dont know how to tell which ones i already have

^^^ The carrier bearing helps reduce drive shaft vibration. My truck is an 07 and it has 1480 u-joint and yoke from the factory (verified by J.E. Reel driveshaft co). Not sure as to when GM upgraded to the 1480. Your truck has either a 1410 or 1480.

I believe GM upgraded to 1480 series in 2007. Seeing that I just replaced old ones yesterday with two new Spicer 1410's, I may upgrade to 1480 next time. Part of the damage is due to negligence on my behalf. I should have checked for wear more frequently. Thank you though.

There's also leaking from transfer case rear output shaft. Significant play with slip yoke. How do you know if it's just a bad seal and/or bushing? Should I just replace both?

Going to pick up new yoke part no. (12471501) today at dealer. Will replace tomorrow.
