I'm not worried about it for a different reason: it probably won't work. I'm saying this as an Electrical Engineer and a Computer Engineer. I'll believe it works when it actually gets installed and starts catching things, but I'm not holding my breath.
You seem to be missing a key point here: almost everything is illegal. 95% of what we do to our trucks is illegal. They way many of us drive is illegal in several (dozens of?) ways. Who knows what product or action they will make illegal next.
The problem isn't the government getting better at finding illegal substances and acts, it is the government losing perspective, and not being able to tell the difference between an innocent mistake or by a regular joe, and a nutjob terrorist bent on mass destruction. And we are not (effectively) making them change policy, so really, no one but us to blame.
It is just sad to live in a world where most of the things I grew up doing for fun are now illegal (my parents "should" be in jail for letting me do them), and I'm not even 27 yet. New laws are passed at a rate so high that even the lawmakers can't read them all. Since we can't possibly read the laws we are subject to, who knows what all we are doing that is illegal.
If you want to look into it more, you can start with
this book, but there is tons of information out there.
That is why I cringe when people say "if you're not doing anything illegal, you have nothing to fear"--- we are ALL doing illegal things, every day. We usually don't even know it.
