the 02 and earlier electrical architecture is not in anyway compatible with LLY engine management systems.

ben

You said this...

Nor is It even compatible with a 03-04 lb7

And Simon said this...

So I said that they are somewhat compatible, because it worked in mine with a couple of small issues so they might not be as different as some people think. I then asked if you guys knew of anything in particular I should check since you both seem to know something about the difference of both harnesses.

I didn't say it would work in an LLY..........
;)

DOH!!! My bad, sorry about that I completely misunderstood.: Carry on. :)

maybe the injector itself isnt the root cause of the problem. Maybe its something else that isnt so easy to just swap out and change.......................................... ;)

i was just rereading this thread and would like to resurrect it and pick some brains as to what they think the root cause of LB7 injector failure is....i have luckily only had to replace them once but if there IS a "not so easy fix" i might try it.

Don't flame me on this question guys. Greg and Ben, what about the over heating problem on the LLY's? Since this seems to be a hit and miss with some of you. Does anybody really know what is causing it? I would hate to go through this whole process of curing one problem and then having another problem to tend to. Is it that the cooling system(on the LLY's) is not large enough? I would love for this to work and not have to worry about the injectors anymore. I just had my balance rates looked at and were fine. But boy are they getting noisier.

ok, i did read that part correctly then
I am by no means an electrical whizz but isn't there a way to reduce volts inline, post- FICM, and use an LLY injector in a LB7 head that way?

I wish I had an extra 03-04 LB7 here. I would like to try running it on an LLY FICM, heads and injectors.

I see no reason why an LB7 ECM wouldnt be able to drive an LLY FICM. That way you would just change to LLY heads, injectors, plug in the LLY FICM and away you go.

and LBZ's dont have FICM's correct? so theoretically you could run lbz heads on a lb7 with lly injectors with bigger o-rings like Casper and get the whole shebang?:D

The only place ivs seen an LLY overheat is the internet. We own 2, our neighbor has 1, and two friends each have llys. 4of the 5 have towed in the summer with out overheating. The fifth has never towed but runs crazy larry and hes never had any problems with heat.

X2...my father has one mostly stock except for a mileage tune and tows heavy occasionally....never overheated

I guess you could?

What would be easiest is running LLY injectors (run either LLY or LBZ heads, doesnt matter, there is no advantage one over the other), and swapping to an LLY FICM.

Then you "shouldnt" have to change wiring, ECM, etc..

thats my thinking...no guarantee's if it will work tho!! :D

thanks Ben, for some reason i thought the LBZ heads were better, but after thinking it over i guess it wouldnt really make a difference since whatever heads i would use would most likely be ported :D

I am curious to the electrical issue (96 vs 48) as well. Is there any way to put a surge protector or filter in line to keep electrical spikes to a minimum, and cut the volts down on the LB7 injectors?

I know little to nothing about vehicle electric so if this is "way out there" I apologize in advance :D

someone needs to try this because i have a truck i haven't driven in more than 2 months and it would be alot better to fix the problem than just putting a band aid on the problem (new lb7 injectors:mad:)

I would try it in my 2004, if I had a complete 04 lb7 motor.

Fingers and I talked about it, he believes it will work, but the only way to find out is to try it!
