Nor is It even compatible with a 03-04 lb7:banghead:

I would still like to thinks it's possible:) I think i would prefer lbz heads

Maybe not 100% compatible... but I drove an 02 and my 03 into a shop pulled both engines and put the 02 engine, harness and all, into the 03 and the only thing I found that didn't work was the oil pressure gauge doesn't work. and I get a code for loss of communication with gauge cluster and low voltage from oil press sensor. I figured that might happen because the sensor is in a different spot. Other than that everything works fine that I have found.

Any of you guys that know more about the differences in the harness know of anything else I should check out if they are that much different? I don't want an electric fire under the hood and I'm kind of starting to wonder now.:D

yeah thats completely different than putting an LLY engine into an 01-02....................

besides LB7 injectors sucking ass the other fantastic feature is the fact that there a major pain in the ass to change, i know from experiance, ive been into mine more times than i like to count and i hate it just the same <--- a major reason i'd love to eventually do this swap. Cause i have little faith in any aftermarket comapny making a badass injector that holds up and dosent crack. Every injector i had fail, blew fuel out of the injector body as a result of poor material quality/manufacturing. Bosch has had 8 years to make us a good injector, hell all of the latter duramaxes have good injectors! Makes sence if you think about it... theres no money in the "cure" but theres money in the "treatment" so the swap to a better design is the best path to take. It must be nice not having to pull the valve covers to change injectors:cool2:

There's some conjecture that the cause of the cracking LB7 injectors was the 96 Volts used to fire them. At the very least, it's an odd coincidence that they changed the LLY to 48 Volts, which have had near zero problems (relative to the LB7), and then the LBZ & LMM dropped to 12 volts.

In theory, if you put LLY heads on your block, and swapped from a LB7 FICM to LLY FICM, your LB7 ECM should have no trouble driving the LLY FICM, thus driving the LLY injectors, although you'd also need to adjust the tune for the different flow rate of the LLY injectors.

the 02 and earlier electrical architecture is not in anyway compatible with LLY engine management systems.

ben

You said this...

Nor is It even compatible with a 03-04 lb7

And Simon said this...

So I said that they are somewhat compatible, because it worked in mine with a couple of small issues so they might not be as different as some people think. I then asked if you guys knew of anything in particular I should check since you both seem to know something about the difference of both harnesses.

I didn't say it would work in an LLY..........

Kevin im impressed or confused you said the oil pressure and level dont work that was what I found as the small issue....the problom I had trying to get the 01-03 harness was the main plugs WOULD not go together if you look carefully at the bottom plug ( what ever those big main plugs are called on top of the DS valve cover ) it has different pins! Mine did anyways:confused: Im not insinuating that yours wont work and geuss I shouldnt assume they are all like that:confused::(

Everything seems to be working fine except for the oil pressure gauge. Just the code of low voltage from the sensor I looked at it and I must have hit the sensor putting it in and broke it so I didn't give it much thought and ordered another one. Put it on and still had the same problem. I thought maybe the wire in the engine harness was off a pin or two. I've been trying to get the schematics every since with no luck.

I'll have to unplug them tomorrow and look at them. I didn't even think about it. I just reached up and plugged them in. I was tired by the time I got there. (My help ditched me after we got the first one pulled.:D) They didn't go in hard or anything? The only other thing that was different was the a/c compressor, but the plugs on it were even the same.

sorry bout my termonoligy:D but the bottom will plug in but the grey lever will NOT lock down.....Atleast mine didnt after countless trys i had a good look at the pin posistion and they are different

maybe just a Canadian thing:D

Why put the LB7's in them? I thought everyone wanted to get away from the LB7 injectors and lose the problems? Is there something to gain from the heads of the LLY/LBZ over the LB7?

I also had glow plug controller issues...Not sure if that eas harness related though

That's the one I was looking for right there....:D It got down to 18* yesterday and I noticed it started a little harder than usual and the voltage was right back up to about 15 volts as soon as it started. I got under the hood and made sure I put the wire back on the controller.:D Looks like I'll get good use of the block heater for a while...:D

I don't know... both of the main plugs went right in and snapped down just like they should have. Hope I wasn't just tired enough to just shove till it went.:D Maybe I just got lucky and mashed the right pins together.

to keep all the wireing the same ficm ecm ect wouldent have to be changed but iam far from a expert on this :) im shure if someone put the time into it it could be done
