Will ATI Super Damper make for smoother idle?

I know the super damper is really good for additional horsepower and all. My question is has anyone had experience with it helping for a smoother idle. I have Merchant Automotive Engine Mounts and poly transmission mount as well as a south bend clutch solid flywheel/clutch. My vibrations I have aren't too bad, but it does cause for some dash rattles, especially when its cold out and the truck isn't nice and warmed up. I have thought about the Fluid Damper but have heard bad things with the crank, if it could be pinned with the EPR kit I might consider it. So basically, does the ATI decrease vibrations well beyond the stock damper, even at idle?

It wouldn't make your vibration go away. Go back to stop motor mounts if you want the vibrations gone.

Eric's mounts really didn't affect it much. The south bend clutch alone had a bit of a buzz to it, even with stock mounts. The mounts from Merchant actually really stopped the shake and excessive movement. I read a bunch of dodge manual guys that used the fluidamper and said it made a noticeable improvement on quieting down their trucks with south bend clutches, but its not a good design for the duramax, so I was just wondering if the super damper was equally effective at further reducing vibrations. I did find my balancer pin bent a while ago and I fixed that with a new pin and used balancer but sometimes I wonder if it might have slipped a bit again.

I don't think so. Not much noise, just some rattles from the engine. One thing I was concerned with was a "pule" I felt in the shifter. Thought it might of been a bearing in the trans, but revved it up in neutral and felt the same thing. I drove my buddies cummins 6 speed with a stock clutch and it had that a bit too, just not as much. I think everything is normal, just thought that the ATI damper would make it feel even smoother.

i was always told that when you have a solid flywheel you need a fluidampr or ati so it wont vibrate. i put my fluidampr on at the same time i did my clutch and i never had a vibration

It's common when going from a dual mass flywheel to solid one. We typically bump the idle rpm up a little and that seems to help smooth out the vibration.

I know the fluid damper will help, but I'm not spending the money on the same slip fit design. I think the super damper might help too, I have ready threads on other vehicles where they had a much better idle with it installed. I am going to look at an Lbz motor tomorrow so that may change everything if I get it and do the swap.

I would raise the idle too. I would never put a fluid dampner on. They say for some reason you can't balance a motor with a fluid dampner on. So your balance it with the stock then install the other one. So I don't see how you could ever get it balanced out. So especially just throwing one on wouldn't do much in my eyes.

they say this because the fluidampr is supposedly already balanced or some crap

The only reason I really don't like the fluid damper is because the slip fit with the pin. I wonder if you could use the empire kit on one? Not sure if the center part is filled with their fluid or not.

Fluidamprs are fricken heavy. With ati we just put the hub in the bearing oven for a few minutes and they slip right on. Then bolt up the dampr.
