Why are people taking new engines and putting 1905 technolgy on it

So now on both Gearz and Horsepower TV they have taken LS engines and carbuereted them acting like it so cool. Jeez I want a piece of crap on my engine that is tuned for one condition and altitude and cant really compensate for anything else.

They also took a newer hemi put a huge 871 blower and two carbatooters on it and were amazed that this 5 foot tall engine made 700hp I am sure you could have done that without a 5 foot blower with fuel injection.

I freaking hate carburetors they are junk. if they were so good how come you get 10,000 miles out of plugs vs 100,0000+

Even when I had my quad I hated it because if I wanted to take it to flagstaff it ran like chit unless I took it a part and rejetted it.

I can not fathom being stupid enough too take something that actually works well off and replace it with a piece of $hit

even 1987 Tbi is way better than carburetors

Try racing 2 stroke sleds with 3 carbs and having to rejet eveytime it goes up or down 10 degrees if you want it to run optimum or not burn down.But i do love that hard hitting power band

I am with you 100%. Carburetors should be a museum piece by now. Whenever they are used on anything, especially as a retrofit, it makes me die a little inside.

I say this owning 2 fuel injected trucks (and previously owning a carbureted truck), and 2 carbureted motorcycles. I've had both, and fuel injection is the only way to go.

The part that irks me is motorcycles. My 1983 Yamaha XJ650LJ is old enough that I can forgive the carburetor (though Suzuki had a fuel injected bike in that era), but my 2003 dirt bike-- WTF!?! Yes, it is a 2 stroke, so it is probably harder to fuel inject, but that's no excuse in the year 2003.

Every time I ride, I have to estimate the average temperature for the day, and the average elevation, then take apart the carb and put in an appropriate jet and needle, then tweak the idle air mixture constantly while I ride. It only ever runs right for ~1 hour at that perfect elevation and temperature, but when it does, BAM! Hang on!
If it was fuel injected, it would be at that perfect air/fuel ratio all day, instead of for 1 hour, tops.

Hell, my 06 crf450 was carb'd, never messed with the jets though, bike only went to the dunes and the tracks. My neighbor has a EFI crf450 and I can tell night and day difference form my bike to this one.

Cause it is kinda like saying mechanical injection on diesels are dead, but all the top dogs are still on top with it.

Totally agree carbs are ancient. However a race carb on an NA motor as a rule doesnt it put out more peak HP? Have seen it alot. Not as much torque though. Crap gas mileage too.

Guys do this for ease of tuning and retrofitting into older vehicles. Makes life much simpler.

They were mag articles like Hot Rod or Car Craft and such but it was more like 450 vs 480 or so (engine dyno). Think it was Lingenfelter. I agree tho. I gotta learn to tune late model stuff.

Sure would like to see turbos allowed in AA Fuelers. Think blowers are kinda outdated too for that application.

yeah im with all u guys on carbs my 76 chevy (thats fs) has a carb and it drives me nuts one day it started running shitty

i couldnt figure out why had to pay a buddy to rebuild it so it would run again and thats what i hate one little thing goes wrong and its 100+ bucks to rebuild plus a couple of hrs of ur time

where the dmax if it pops a code i can look at it on the fly clear the code and never stop driveing dont even have to touch a tool now thats nice plus if the code becomes a real problem i can talk to u guys about it and find the source of the problem and learn everything about the problem hell most of the time i know what tools i need before i even open the garage door lol

Every joe blow can tune a carb(more than likely screw it up).

Takes someone with experience, know-how, and the right tools to tune EFI no matter what the application.

Old school guys say i could never use a computer, the EFI guys say i have no idea how a mechanical pump works!

I hate carbs with a passion... But try swapping in a newer motor plus the wiring harness into an older ride and you can see why people take the easy route and get a carb... Especially old school guys who don't have a clue about ecm tuning. Other option would be a standalone but that's getting into serious money... Still requires tuning.

I love the tuning (being in IT has something to do with it). But some guys are scared to death of it... Plus all that wiring etc.... Just over some peoples heads, yet they know the newer series motors are real good and want one...
