LBZ: White smoke truck Issue

Sorry for the long post. I am just trying to explain my situation as detailed as possible. My truck is a 2006 lbz with around 90,000 miles. About a month ago i noticed a good amount of white smoke coming from my exhaust, more then just a haze. i realized it especially when i was stopped at a light at night, but there was a few times i saw it during daylight. I took the truck to the dealer and had them check my balance rates. all came back within spec, 1 was a little higher than the others but they told me i was fine.

fast forward to this past thursday, i realized the white smoke easier during the day time. I dropped by the dealer and had them check my balance rates. in N at idle all my injectors were +/- 1.5 to mid 2's. in Drive, 7 were around mid to upper 2's and 1 was right at 4 (all within the +/- 6). i was with the technician when he had the tech2 hooked up to my truck. He said at 1 time a code was thrown for something EGR related (i forgot the code#). i bought the truck used and never saw this code. the guy at the dealer used the tech2 to run a test to check anything that would make a CEL come on, but everything is working properly (according to the tool).

Now today. i was supposed to meet someone for help with efi live tuning a hour away from my house. before i left i let my truck run for 5 minutes and it didnt smoke at all. i also checked my leaky transmission cooler lines. they are leaking a bit more now, so i drove my truck a couple miles and before i got on the highway i pulled into a commuter lot to check them out again.

when i got out of my truck i saw a lot of white smoke coming from the exhaust. then i got under my truck to check the cooler lines and i noticed white smoke coming from my PCV reroute tubes!?!? i drove home and the smoke was still coming from the exhaust (seemed like it wasnt as bad) and there was still smoke from my PCV reroute tubes. when home i revved the truck in park and in drive (with my foot an the brake) and had my dad look to see if any smoke was coming from the EGR valve. he said he didnt see anything. while revving the engine the exhaust was pretty smoke free, just a touch of light black smoke.

i have no idea whats wrong with my truck, im starting to get nervous now. any help would be appreciated. thanks

Did the smoke smell like anything? Coolant or fuel? or ?

Pull the oil fill cap off see if it blowing out there any when running. Also check oil level and smell for fuel and take a paper towel and let the oil drip on it from the dip stick see if there is a ring that is lighter in color then the oil dot that will also show if you have fuel in you oil. Does it have a rough idle any codes dash lights on?

i have not seen any check engine lights and the idle seems fine. the exhaust smells like diesel (at least i think so). i took the oil fill cap off when i got home earlier and when idling in Park i saw some white smoke puffing. i am going to check the oil on a paper towel now. thanks guys

the oil level seems fine. i did the oil drop thing on a paper towel. i dont know if there is a ring around the oil or if thats just the oil spreading thru the towel and drying. how distinct will the ring be? also, i smelled the oil and i dont smell much. i basically just smell the paper towel. ill try and get a picture up.

If the oil level is not up not what I was thinking. The outer ring would be real light colored paper towels are so cheap made these days it doesn't help. With being a lbz truck most the time it's a cracked piston when you have white smoke and also puffing out the oil fill but you would also have ses light and a dtc code of p0300 thru p0301 to p0308. The p0300 is just showing a miss fire then the 301 to 308 tells what piston is hurt mine was p0306. How long have you had the truck new used know the history of it if not post the vin number and we can run that and see what type of life she has had. How hard is the top rad hose after being parked also has the truck had any tunes in it I know you said you were heading to buddys for efi live but any hand helds?

these 3 are of the oil when it was still wet

its hard to tell if theres a ring with the paper towels i have. not sure how much of a clear cut ring you see

i have had the truck for about 2 months. there was 1 previous owner. he claims to never have tuned the truck. he did tow around 10,000 lbs (enclosed car trailer) a few times a year (like 5 times). i got 1 of those VIN checks and the only thing there was new glow plugs and a module reprogram, i think that was a recall.

What site was the vin check done on. Other then the diesel place I do most of them all on the forums. Be nice to get a scaner on it.

it was over on diesel place. i would imagine if i got it done here you would get the same info. i got 8 new glow plugs 2 weeks ago so that would be the only new thing on there. this is what i found (nothing much).

Did the dealer just do the glow plugs and reprogram 2 weeks ago. That was to be done back in 06. I can read into the vin check deeper then what they posted for you I can read the notes posted and some other stuff that doesn't get posted with some vin checks. If your still covered I would let the dealer fix it on there dime.

Most the time I like doing the vin check before were 11 post in then we find out that tge truck just got glow plugs is there anything else. It helps with figuring out what's wrong with your truck.

that stuff i posted is what i found over on diesel place's VIN check. 2 weeks ago i got 8 new glow plugs. sorry for the confusion. i will PM you my VIN #. thanks

Check your coolant level kurt and look for leaks by your egr.

The truck shows a history with the glow plugs from the dealer ship doing them before at another dealer only on the left side. And now doing them all at a new dealer ship. He has til next month til yth ewarranty is gone so best bet is forcing the dealer into looking in to this more since its on a short time table.

i dropped my truck off today at the dealer. they wont be getting to it til tomorrow or wednesday. just another note. i know my truck is straight piped but i feel like the exhaust has a stronger diesel smell than other aftermarket exhaust duramaxs i am around.
